Can you get your bank to reverse the payment ?

Will speak to the bank tomorrow but I think we were going to be up for fees/charges close to the amount originally transferred?

I'd rather give the money to the bank than the scammer

Get the 200 of us happy to call him at any hour, day or night and leave a message with him for someone called Charles.

Then we'll get Bird to ring and say...         "Its Charles here, any messages for me."

Actually, that is not safe for gumtree. Paypal does not offer buyer and seller protection on gumtree. Gumtree is primarily for face-to-face contact and cash hand-over. For that reason, be very, very careful when doing online transactions on gumtree!

When you want to have an item off gumtree through online transaction, ask the seller to post it on ebay. I just did something similar. The buyer was happy to post it on ebay and I immediately bought the item when it was available. This is the safest way for both buyer and seller as both have (some kind of) protection.

Where does it say in PayPal gumtree is exempt?

Wow, it didn't take long for Claire to react on my advertisement on gumtree yesterday.
Only 3 hours or so after putting our Ford Fiesta up for sale I got a text from her.
She asked how much the asking price was. A bit odd I thought as it was clearly stated in the ad.
Anyway I replied by email at her request.
Not much later:

"Thanks for the response,I would have loved to call you directly but due to the nature i work with the The Australian  Army Corps. we do not have access to phone at the moment, which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility.

I am buying this for my first son who just graduated on top of his class at Aviation University  ,I want it to be the perfect graduation gift for him and am making it a surprise package ,Does it have any history I should be aware of? and why are you selling if you don't mind my asking. I don't mind adding an extra $300.00 for you just to take down the posting..I am already in talks with freighters that will handle the pickup and delivery .I will really appreciate if you can email more info

Due to the nature of my work i am a very busy woman working all day, am a (Operating officer) am presently on-board, i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here but i have my ANZ bank account link up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through Account to your nominated bank account or better still is if you have a PayPal account ,please get back to me with your BSB and account details or PayPal account so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in NT for my son .Await your reply
"

A couple of odd things.
My ad states why I am selling.
She is in the Army Corps and she is on-board. Does the Army has ships? I thought that was the Navy?

Mmmm, what shall I do?  ;D
She is in NT.

Waiting to read from you ASAP.i will like you to disregard any kind of call or message concerning this item as I am confirming to you with this email that I am purchasing this item and its funds are ready to be transferred to your account"

I would have thought that any Service person would have a better grasp of the English Language.
They need to read write and understand the English Language to eliminate mistakes and confusion when accepting instructions of any kind.
It seems bogus to me, so string 'em along.
In a weeks time message them that you have someone on your front doorstep with cash in hand, ask them if they are still interested.
Keep all the contact info and copies of the messages as well as the source code for the messages.
Source code will show the IP address the messages come from.
I hope Bruce (Bird) will confirm here, when I say "No source code for their message and you won't find them."
Forward to the Federal Coppers, Gumtree and anyone else you feel might need to know.
Only get rid of them by Black listing these oxygen thieves.

Besides, how do you know it's a "She" or whether it's white, Brown, or Brindle.
You only have "The message" to say so.

And they would know that the Army is made up of Corps(transport, armored, infantry etc.), and there is no such thing as The Army Corps per se.

Which is also why we don't have the Royal Australian Army, unlike the RAN and RAAF. The individual regiments and Corps have the Royal title in their name, so the Army being made from these sub units misses out on the title.

Now there is your useless fact for the day

if you have the guy's telephone number, you can create all sorts of havoc for him.

a mate of mine had a disagreement with a scumbag.  He knew his home address and phone number.  He ordered literally dozens of home delivered pizzas to the guys house.  When he claimed he didn't place the order, the delivey guy had his name, phone number and address.  Eventually no one would accept home delivery orders from him.  Gold...!

I've had a boat and a car for sale on ebay and gumtree since late april.
Not a sign of any scammers untill I stumped up some money and put them on carsales and boatsales.
That was in mid may and the 8 emaillers all seemed to work for energy aust in the middle of NT.

Sold them both this week for cash. ;D
