This is my third Stumpy and by far the best! I've owned this one now for two years and would find it hard to ride anything but 650B, the handling is amazing, it's a great all-rounder.

Is that pic taken at the You Yangs?

Sure is! Taken at the Ranger station, it's a great place to ride.

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

Don't get a Road/Track bike with a ISIS BB in it, they are a pain in the arse to remove, even if you have the BB remover!  >:(

I didn't realise that they still used ISIS on anything anymore...

I honestly haven't seen it for what... 10 years.

The n+1 bike theory was adopted today for my son, project 'Micro Goose' has commenced. After watching too many episodes of 'Wheeler Dealers' he wanted to fix up a car with me, I thought a project bike was a better idea for a 6 year old. Got to love eBay, $40 and 30 minutes away. It is actually a Mongoose Micron, all original and in reasonably good condition. Thanks to murucycles for your advice.

What is the cable running up under the seat?  ???

Suspect its for a dropper seat post - think of a lightweight office chair mechanism that allows you to lower these at height on the fly for tricky bits.

Its a dropper seat post. So on the run you can lift the seat up or lower it down. Pedalling efficiency is best with seat up, and technical sections can be faster with seat down.
One of the best innovations in the last 20 years. It's a cable to a switch on the bars, and actuates hydraulic seat post. Press button, sit on seat it goes down. Press button and stand up, seat raises.

Agreed.

Yes it's the Reverb dropper post. Full hydraulic control 150mm drop. It has a thumb button that you push to lower, you can drop any to height within that 150mm range.

They run on an air spring @ about 200psi with adjustable control so you don't get smashed plums on the return stroke.

As posted I was a little dubious but after you ride with one they are fantastic for high speed technical riding.

I like the concept, likewise here also foo  ;D

Very nice bike btw motoz !

Dont know what we did before droppers  ;D Rail corners much harder and the seat is out of the way in technical stuff. Possibly best upgrade for most mountain bikers unless you're a weight weeny, adds probably 300 - 400gms

Bird

happily not part of the pissing comp.. but I'm lookin for a set of 26in MTB wheels for an old school bike I wanna do up...
I've had it from new (Mid 90s) and would like to get it sorted, throw some road tyres on it and with summer coming on start to lose some blubber... Been a few decades since I rode Kurnell to Mascot to work daily ;)

It's one of these, but doesn't look this good - yet, been laying on the floor in a shed at dads for 10+ years since my accident, so its covered in grime, dirt and Shit but will wash up great... I forgot it was there actually.

You should be able to pickup a set of wheels from any bike store, Bird. Get new and then you know they will roll smooth. Clean and regrease bottom bracket also.

Or if the price for new wheels scares you 26" bikes are a dime a dozen 2nd hand. You can probably pick up a whole bike off scumtree for less than a new set of wheels, and in good nick.

Can't decide which bike to take camping...take them all :)

yea... I've noticed I can buy a complete bike for less than a set of alloy rims with quick release axle. :(

thought someone may have had a set layin round in the shed from years gone by.

I got a shed full, bit for away though :)

Hit up a roadside pickup, there is always plenty of rims on offer. I just had the kids at school scrap a dozen I picked up last week for the ally. There was nothing wrong with them, a couple could have done with a regrease but were all running true enough fro a commuter.
