Look what followed me home...

I've been doing more road riding of late, because the roads are quieter and I am limited to the trails I can ride with stage 4 lockdown. My Norco Search was ok but it is designed as an enjoy the ride rather than go fast bike, and with a lot of 20+% hills around my area it wasn't cutting it. I called my bike guy (Mocha from BikeZone in Fitzroy) and like the good salesman he is he said 'have I got a deal for you'. Turns out he had a 2020 BMC Roadmachine in my size that he needed to move as the 2021 models are due next week. 2021 model is a different colourway and wheels, basically the same bike. Motivated seller and motivated buyer, deal done, oh and he personally delivered it to me. Now to work out how to use all the gadgets with electronic shifting.

I could be hatin on you right now, what a score!

It's known as "burbing", an activity which has taken hold in recent months among a small community of Melbourne cyclists confined to their local area

Tour-De-Reservoir LOL!

Have been asked to do something like this in my area. Surprising how my klms you can run up in a small radius.  ;D

Synchro shifting is so sweet... Make sure you upgrade all the firmware regularly, as Shimano release a lot of small bug fixes and enhancements fairly regularly

Ok, I'm looking for some help...

Does anyone know where I can buy some 26 inch mountain bike rims for vbrake setup?

Mine are starting to become quite scored and they're looking to be quite difficult to find.  Even if I don't need them immediately, I'm thinking it'll pay to hang a set up for the future...

I bricked it on Friday with a failed firmware upgrade. It became a very expensive single speed for a while there. Judging by the numerous YouTube videos, bricking your bike is a right of passage with Di2 :)

You were upgrading it wirelessly, right?

Yeah, the wireless transmitter can only be upgraded via Bluetooth until you get it on the latest firmware then it can be upgraded via wired USB.

Pretty sure you can use etube via the charger.

Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to let the assistant discharge, reconnect it, connect the charger and flash the failed component... Have fixed a mates bike for him in the past this way

Yes you can use etube via the charger once you have the wireless unit on the latest firmware.

So it did work? Cool... My mate was crapping himself having to tell his wife he'd bricked his $10k bike...

Both my bikes have cables still... Next one will be Di2 or eTap though I reckon

Yeah after some faffing and sweating it came good. I had to swap the wireless module for the original joiner to get it back to working. I plugged it in and updated all firmware, then added the wireless module back in and etube saw it and updated it. I just programmed the lever top buttons to control my Garmin and setup synchro shift.

If you are on Facebook there are a few buy/sell pages. One to try is Bicycle Market Australia

Not fussed either way to be honest - if they're wheels, I need a 9 speed Shimano rear, and quick release all round.  If I can find rims, I can rebuild on my XT hubs

Who's been out and amongst it??

Yup, I've been getting my inner roadie on with the new bike. I have come up with a few 1hr loops within 5km that include hill repeats. I've got a 10% 100m climb that I do full gas at threshold 5 times, and also a 10% 500m climb I do at 80% threshold 5 times. I try and get out every other day and have noticed from the data my heart rate is recovering quicker from each repeat, still waiting for my power meter to arrive. I've also dropped the cadence from 90+ RPM (spinning) to 70 RPM (grinding) to build leg strength.

I went on my first group ride in more than 15 years last week.

'Slow' 1hr social ride on mix of bike paths, easy smooth single track and paved road. Got told I will be fine on a mountain bike.

Well I rock up on my dual sus trail bike complete with 2.6" downhill tyres and meet the group, all on fancy, carbon fibre gravel bikes and a few lightweight hardtails....... needless to say I got dropped 2/3 of the way in to the ride....... I'm getting fitter but still a long way to go.

Now I want me a gravel bike..... but I'm looking for something more oriented for the road that can take 35-38mm tyres. The field of different gravel bikes is quite diverse, I don't think I want slack and burly. I think I want light and fast and able to handle dry gravel paths and tarmac. If it's going to be loose and rocky I'll take the MTB.
Any suggestions.

I'm the meantime I rode the loop on my flat bar commuter with 700x35 tyres and aside from the short section of single track it handled the rest fine. I'll be taking that this Friday!!

ITs funny, we used to have 1 bike that could do everything .. now you need a fleet of 1500 bikes for every situation
