Amazing the history you find. Merckx are known for a card that has the original build information on the top of the fork, however most of them have been removed over time. I have the Merckx getting a once over and service and asked the mechanic to pull the fork to see if could tell us anything. Well it's a time capsule. The original card is there from 1985, the writing is in Flemish, fork serial number matches the frame, the name of the original purchaser and the colours, proof that it is a genuine original Merckx. There is also writing from the person who imported the bike into AU in 2010 and cleaned it up. I have been able to make contact with the guy who imprted the bike and get some further details. I thought it was pretty cool.

Went for a 20k out and back ride this arvo on the road bike. At the 10k turn around point I noticed the rear tyre was flat. No repair kit, no phone and no wallet. Walked for about 4km then thought stuff this and rode slowly for the last 6. Less than 80km on the tyre and tube. Both stuffed now.
I was riding on a shared pathway along a dual lane each way road and there was a lot of debris on the path. Schofields Rd in western Sydney if anyone knows it.

That's what happens with HT tyres ......get some LT tyres ..... ;D ;D

On the subject of retro bikes, brother has just picked up a 1996 Kona Hahanna...

Going to a bit of a project for him, so should be interesting to see what it comes out as. I used to have a 1995 Kona Fire Mountain, until I snapped the frame and it became a 2000 Kona Kiluea bitsa.

Nicely done and one of a few blokes that still does custom made frames.  8)

So I went into the bike shop today to get them to check the tyre and get another one and a new tube. They said the tyre was fine and just needed to replace the tube. They checked the tyre also for anything protruding or cuts and found the flat was because the tube had a crease in it from when it was fitted (by them during a service) so no charge. Winning.

I'm sorry if I offend someone, but does no one know how to change a pushbike tyre ??

How can anyone, with a brain bigger than an amoeba, be offended by a question? Your opening words perpetuate the problem within our society today. Too many precious souls about.

Hi,
Creased tubes? Try 5 of them!
Changed the LT tyres on the Dyna for radials at a well known (think great 365 days) depot.
Yep 5 new, smaller dia tyres and the twits used the old tubes!!!
What were they thinking?
Cheers

Gronk I am not offended and do know how to change a tyre and tube and a lot of stuff more complicated than that but I wanted the shop to tell me if my tyre was shagged as it was fairly new as I had just ridden 6km on it flat. This is my first road bike and I didn't have tyre levers for these tyres. When you are running 100-120PSI compared to 40PSI in my mountain bike I want to be sure. I thought stuff it they can change the tube while I am there and as luck would have it I got it all for nix.

I broke another chain on Friday. That's two chains on 29ers that I've broken. Sucks to be putting out so many watts. :o Lucky we were on the rail trail and had a tailwind on the way back.  ;D

Foo, you're lucky you got that in on Friday. Would have been a bit harder yesterday with those Westerlies head butting you.

Question to those with a quiver full of bikes...

It's there a big difference in ride comfort between Steel and Titanium?

Looking at a few gravel bikes, and there are some affordable titanium options out there.

Context - the last new bike I bought was 18 years ago, and I've logged over 130k on it, so I tend to get my money's worth
