Speaking of Bands (mi sex thread) and in the great Rockwiz tradition:

1. what was the first live band everyone went to see?

2. what was the first album you brought with you own money?

For me:

1.  (two answers)

A.  Lobby Loyd and his Coloured Balls, Mansfield High School end of year social in 1973 (pretty good for a local school social).

B.  Eagles and Festival Hall in 1976.

2. Uriah Heep Live (Double Album).

Yeah, I was a bit of a Rocker back then.

Side story:  In early  74 (I think) the School Student Council looked at booking an unknown band for the grand cost of $800 for the end of year social. By the time we went to make the decision mid year, we couldnt afford them, the cost had gone up to $2500.  The Band:  SKYHOOKS.

1/. So long ago it was either Chain (Bondi Lifesavers) or Jethro Tull (Horden Pavillion) 1974. It is all a blur now and in the old tradition, if you can remember the 70's you weren't really there.

2/. Let It Be, The Beatles
TUG=GU ST 2012 Ute, CT = Modcon Imperial HF
We have to start thinking about what sort of a world we are going to leave for Keith Richards after we are all gone.

duggie

1: Dragon- live in Cairns in 1976

2: Stoned by the Rolling Stones

I was luck or unlucky, depends on your flavor, to be given back stage tickets to Skyhooks live at the Port Douglas play day weekend in the late 70's by none other than Graeme "Shirley" Strachan . He walked out of the Courthouse Hotel in Port Douglas, Drunk as a skunk, right in front of our old Holden EJ station wagon.
Luckly, I had only just adjusted up the brakes or we would have run over him, Shirley staggered back to the passenger window and threw 6 stage passes onto the dash thanking us for saying his life.
The rest of the weekend is still only a blur. ;D

cheers duggie

Fun Police

1: The Angels, Matt Finish and the Flowers (now Icehouse) at Civic Park in Newcastle - circa 1977/78 - can't remember exactly - I was only 13 or so.  Watched two guys cut each other to ribbons with broken glass.  Pretty scary for a year 7/8 student !!

2: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
You can't spell 'funeral' without 'fun', nor 'manslaughter' without 'laughter'

The first band I went to see ( unofficially as I was just 17)  was Midnight Oil under another name at Manly Leagues club ( they used to play under different names quite often).
The first official band (over 18) was The Angels in Newcastle somewhere (could have been The Workers)

The first album bought was the 12 inch single of Pink Floyd The Wall.

Another musical memory, Amate used to play in a band in Newcastle by the name of El Ninio. They had several back up bands over the years, The Screaming Jets were the first, after they took off nationally they grabbed Front End Loader, They went national as well. They then thought we can't go wrong with a couple of 15 year old kids and thus introduced Silverchair.   :cup: :cup:

Loved Free in the day though Rodgers was not as good when he formed Bad Company even though his henchman was Mick Ralphs formerly from Mott The Hoople. Now there was a band, I still get shivers listening to Sweet Jane & Jerking Crocus. (All the Young Dudes) Am I still living in the 70's?
