Hema Maps are doing $24 for the explorer app. Not sure if the reviews are that flattering though.
-
I got it and think it will be handy. Only basic mapping but the ability to download and save satellite images (in mobile/wifi coverage) sounds great. Will be testing it tomorrow.

I ran mine on an iPad from Silverton to Tibooburra with a diversion from Milparinka to Pooles grave and Mt Poole Historic Cairn on day one of full use.
Second day from Tibooburra to Innamincka via Warri Gate, Santos Station, Epsilon Station to Della and then via the Srezlecki.
It worked perfectly and showed where I was all the time.
Used it again all the way to St George via The Dig Tree, Noccundra, Thargomindah and Yowah with numerous off main track excursions and it was excellent imo.
The only errors I have found seem to be around built up areas, Port Elliott caravan park in SA being an example where it is shown on the wrong side of the road and too far west.
For the price it is great, just download all the associated free maps on wifi and you are good to go.

Impressed big time. The ability to download satellite images before heading off was really great. No way would I have found the tracks I did if I was just relying on topo maps. Mates kept asking where I was taking them but we were never lost. @ $25, highly recommend for just this feature.

I sold my diesel 1988 Troopy 6 years ago for $7700. It had 330k Kms, bullbar, roof rack twin wheel carriers, twin tanks and was in pretty good nick. I just don't get where they get the $23k price tag from.

"Sorry boss, she's had not interest and it's been here for weeks. I'll give you trade plus 5% just to get it off the lot" ??? Something like that? Yard manager walks (drives) away with a bargain.

the market I've seen for these is the European Backpackers. They buy them SH, drive them around Oz for 6 to 12 months, then sell them back before they fly home.

Yeah i got one from a few months back. I've trialled in the back yard letting tyres dowm on camper and tug & goes all right.
I had a look at a few from SCA, Opposite lock, Autobarn & Repco and all the bigger hduty ones look identical, so i figured their like chinese campers & come from a couple of factories.
The one thing i did notice though was that the nitto fitting & hose at the compressor end get really fkn hot. I'm assuming this is due to friction of air passing, perhaps others can confirm if theirs does the same.
-
Yes, on most makes the fittings will get hot.
A mate who has the ARB twin motor job came of the beach after xmas. His hose blew from excess heat after doing 10 + wheels.
Cheers
-
My Thumper compressor also seems to do the job well enough. Does get hot!
Edit: Thought I would add, its not friction causing it to get hot its thermodynamics. Compress any gas and the temperature rises. That is what makes an engine run "suck, squeeze, bang, blow"...

i would be interested to see how this goes on 12V...
Just like any 3 way fridge... not very efficiently. Good while your driving if you account for voltage drop with the high current.
When not driving definitely use gas.

i would be interested to see how this goes on 12V...
The Aldi (Lumina) Fridge looks an exact copy. Usually $299 when available..
Great on Gas and 240. Ok on 12v when plugged in and getting full current from the vehicle. Not so efficient at lower SOC's.
-
We'd been contemplating another TechniIce 12V/240V fridge, but after our last camping holiday with friends (who had a similar 3-way fridge) we agreed the gas was a bonus.
We'll pre-chill our food/drinks (freeze some meat) before we go and travel with it on 12V then switch to gas when we get where we're going.
Definately a cheaper option to a Weaco/ARB/Engel etc. considering it'll be our second fridge. The TechniIce will keep the foods which are temp sensitive, the Primus will keep drinks/food 'cold'.

Not sure if you would call it a bargain but i picked up a full length ally roofrack for the troll on the weekend. Shovel and mounts on one side, mounts for an awning on the other side and with pvc tubes for fishing poles on each side. Also has a wind deflector on the front. He started out at $700 on gumtree a few weeks ago (never gonna happen) and down to $400 on Saturday. Offered $350 and got it. I know I could have got a steel one new for $400 but these are so much lighter and don't rust. Also made for the GQ so no mods to do for it to fit.
Happy with my buy

Well I know the CFX-50 is normally $1299 as I am contemplating buying one and have been watching the price. I was going to check them out this weekend at the Caravan Show. This is a better deal as I don't need to pay for entry :cup:

Noooooooo! Anaconda cos they will beat any price (rays) by 10%!!!!!!!!!!!! So it ends up being 900 odd. I so love sticking it up anaconda........

The stand and a thermal cover are nice to have. However that deal has no thermal cover. I would keep the stand and give the rest away as presents. So it sort of makes it an expensive stand. Sometimes the getawaeco site has deals on these units.....

Rays Waeco sale this weekend...

At $1000 the CFX50 is pretty good buying. But when a quick google search finds them at $1000-1050 delivered from Tentworld, Getawaeco etc Who waltz's into Rays and pays $1300??
Low act to then sell them on special for the same price others sell normally I think...
The Seabreeze deal is actually a bit better IF you're liking the idea of the other bits and pieces too... good pickup Kiwipride.

Great stuff kiwipride. They are well finished and a good fridge. Really happy with mine. Did they price match or beat it by 10% ?
Last one I got they beat my really good price by 10% without a quibble. I reckon it goes to show how much margin there is on these things......

I went in to get a EF 2000, they are $1799. The 1 KVA is$1199
In that case, I bought a EF1000 for $1048 delivered from Sydney Tools including cover, ground mat and security cable. Again better specs (noise, run time, weight) than the equivalent Honda and in no way an inferior product from a quality perspective.
In fact, I have an old EF1000 for sale. I bought a new one thinking the old one had failed on the generator side. Turns out the issues was with the appliance. So I can now confirm it still runs to full capacity and is no noisier or less smooth than the brand new one. If interested make an offer located in Brisbane.

New model Minelab being released shortly.
Have had my name down for months and will getting one of the first to arrive.
Some say at that price it is not a bargain,
But I fully expect it to be paid for very quickly,
It won't be hard to pick up 7 ounces with the extra depth.

I swapped a brand new, still in the box, never had the tape cut yet Karcher Pressure washer for two free mows today.
She wanted $90.00 and her place is a $45.00 mow, so easy as.
Mowed today for free and will do the next one free as well and it'll cost me about $2.00 in fuel and 1.5 hours of work all up.
She told me it was bought at McBunnings a year or two ago.

Am doing ok, not setting the world on fire but consistently finding good gold, it will definitely pay for itself and much more.
That story above is a furfy.
He found that piece some four weeks ago near Kingower with an older Minelab machine. [nice find hey!]
Along comes the release of the new Minelab, and a long weekend coinciding with the Wedderburn Detector Jamboree and
low a behold he is on the news.
Nugget now found at Wedderburn and he had one of the new model detectors in his hand.
A bit of creative advertising.

Got a price on some wheels and tyres yesterday from my local bloke. Today I went around to get some more prices on the same and find the wheels are now being discontinued and discounted. Went back to my local bloke with this info to get a new quote. Yesterday's price for 5 wheels and tyres including an alignment was $4065. Today's price now down to $3450. Deposit paid and one very happy camper. ;D
Shows that it pays to get quotes, Beau quoted me this morning at $4675 + alignment for exactly the same thing. ???

That price is for a set of 5 but yeh there's a price jump for 17's. Same tyre in an equivalent 18" size is plus another hundred each.

If you are looking for a Yamaha EF2000is it might be worthwhile giving Anaconda's price guarantee a go. They claim they will beat a verified competitor's price by 10%.
Sydney Tools (which has a bricks and mortar as well as online store) currently have the genie for $1395 whereas even with Anaconda's 25% sale this weekend it would still be $1425 at Anaconda. So that means you should be able to get one for about $1255.
-
Nice work rock rat
-
Popped down to the new anaconda in Taylor's lakes, seen the genuine 4x4 equip shovel on a stand last one for $130. They have a 25% off so that brought it down to $97.50. Jump on the phone found an online only price of $94 on done dodgy sale showed the staff they took an extra 10% off so got if for $85 bucks :)

-
Well done. Normally they don't count online as part of their price guarantee.
-
Well done. Normally they don't count online as part of their price guarantee.
And they only price match if it is an identical brand. I found a Coast to Coast annexe mate at RTM but Anaconda wouldn't beat the price because even though they had the exact same product, they branded it their own brand.

I've been looking for a cheap one of these old girls as a second camper just for quick overnighters up the beach fishing etc. Light as hell so even without doing too much with them you can pretty well scull drag them through any soft stuff. Just a shame its in South Australia but for anyone down there looking for a something cheap to start with it would be worth a look if the photos aren't hiding to many nasties. Just thought it may interest someone. Hope the link works ???

Picked up a little Xceed 800w Generator at my local Home Hardware this arvo on clearance for $69 :). I know it's a 2 stroke crapbox but it'll do for the 3 or 4 days a year I'll need to charge the camper battery on a cloudy day when the sun isn't cooperating :). Going by the weather forecast for Easter it may get some use!

Yesterday the house next door was getting it's windows repaired from last years big hail storm that hit Brisbane. Knowing the putty was falling out of many of our timber casement windows and the wife had mentioned she wanted me to fix them, i walked over next door and asked the guy if he was interested in anymore work to do. I thought he would have said no for sure (i found out later that he has 300 jobs booked infront of him to do yet), but to my surprise he said he'd come over in 10 minutes when he's finished and have a look at them. The guy came over and had a look, said "i can do it now for you if you like", to which i said "how much?"......."$50" has says to me :o 8) 8) "is that all" i says to him...go for gold champ.
So i got 6 pairs of casement windows and another single casement repaired for $50 (each casement is divided into 3 panes of patterned glass). He only removed the bits that were loose and needed redoing (2 pairs of casement were nearly all redone completely, and some half redone and a few other just a few small areas needed redoing), but he took about 45 minutes (i would have taken hours to do it) and supplied the putty for that price, so i was stoked to pay him the cash to do that job 8) 8) As he left, he mentioned something about going and putting on a few bets with the cash on the way home ;D ;D

I was in the chemist this morning getting two repeats of my script filled. The girl said do you want the generic which was only out in the last three months. I said yeah it is about $16.00 isn't it and she said oh no it is $20.00 which is better than the $30.00 odd dollars for the real deal. She tapped away at the computer and said OK I can do it for $16.00 :cup:

Twin swag combo looks good.
A lot like a camper bed, just without the camper.
Personally I'd replace the matress with twin Thermarests, which would make it even more compact.

Would love to get one of these for Fraser... but I guess the npws answer to that is NO?
What applications in camping would these be of use? Parks either its a No - or a only in designated rings; etc; etc...
Saw a unit very similar to that at Bunnings on Sunday...

I wonder how many users will still subscribe to spot after the first 12 months as it starts to look expensive (between $165 and $315 USD PA) after that compared to putting a Telstra SIM card into a second hand Satellite Phone and especially as you can now buy 415MHz PLB / EPRBS for ~ $350.

Been looking for some rear speakers for my Home Theatre setup. Looking on Gumtree the other day and found some Wharfdales which were the same as my other front speakers I bought 20 odd years ago when they were higher quality and made in England. $50 thank you off a pommy that bought them in the old dart and bought them out here when he emigrated.
Now have 4 matching ones and would have paid much more to get the matching set. Bargain.

Well done. Love my Wharfedales :cup:

Managed to destroy my Navman reversing camera on a recent trip. Cost me #140 from on-line Officeworks about 15 months ago. Navman advertise the camera for $199.

Works better and has better gridlines.

Luckydog, not an advertised price. I found out about it after ringing Rays asking if they had any in stock. Not sure if it applies Oz wide or just Victoria.
I was told there are very few units left in Vic (less than 6).
I'd suggest giving your local store a call and see what they can do. You could also haggle on a price for display stock.
-
Can I ask what store these prices were at ? Might help to haggle on price.

-
There were only 3 or 4 stores in Vic with stock. Maribyrnong (1 only, floor stock, no cables), Waurn Ponds, and Warrnambool (I think they said they had 3 in stock).
All 3 gave me the same price. They are listed on their system as $834, but all said they would do $800.
As I said, not sure if this is Oz wide, but no harm in asking.
Good luck ;D

It is just the camera - because they feed into my Navman GPS video in. Many of the better GPS have this feature.

Just the camera and all of the wiring because it feeds into my NAVMAN MyEscape II GPS. Many good quality GPS have a video in for this reason.

Anyone bought one of these and able to comment on the quality? I'm not expecting much, but for $56 seems almost too cheap not to buy.

If anyone is going to Brisbane Ekka, just got this from Subara:
We also have a 15% discount offer³ for adult, child and concession passes. To claim the 15% discount simply enter the promo code 168SUBARU when purchasing tickets online on the EKKA website (www.ekka.com.au (http://www.ekka.com.au)). Discount offer available until August? 6 2015.
Usually a heap of offers on tickets but haven't seen any others so far this year? (Mind you, I haven't gone looking for them either >:D)

Ebay have got a bit of a deal with Woolworths and Big W till tomorrow
spend over a $100 in one transaction with any of the many businesses participating in the promotion - select click and collect and ebay send you a $50 voucher in a weeks time that you can use on almost anything on ebay
Only open to those in Vic NSW and Tas I believe
these look pretty good if you have the need:
Eight X 27W LED Work Lamps for $52 ($6 approx each) after you use the click and collect from Big W or Woolworths
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8x-27W-LED-Work-Lamp-Flood-Light-BRIDGELUX-LED-Offroad-Truck-4WD-UTE-4X4-12V-24V-/330763534362?hash=item4d030b001a (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8x-27W-LED-Work-Lamp-Flood-Light-BRIDGELUX-LED-Offroad-Truck-4WD-UTE-4X4-12V-24V-/330763534362?hash=item4d030b001a)
You pay the $102 and ebay send you a $50 voucher in a weeks time that you can use on almost anything
Another option:
Ryco 4WD Service Kit, Air, Oil, Fuel Filters LANDCRUISER PRADO GRJ12, RSK17C ... $52 after coupon
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ryco-4WD-Service-Kit-Air-Oil-Fuel-Filters-LANDCRUISER-PRADO-GRJ12-RSK17C-/252014328306?hash=item3aad3979f2 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ryco-4WD-Service-Kit-Air-Oil-Fuel-Filters-LANDCRUISER-PRADO-GRJ12-RSK17C-/252014328306?hash=item3aad3979f2)
I ended up with a 240gb SSD for the computer for $53 - pretty happy
If you are interested do your normal ebay search and then select the filter (left hand side below price location condition etc SELECT FREE CLICK and COLLECT)
Then you have to ensure you purchase items that can be collected from Woolworths or Big W

Picked up an in car dash camera from JB hifi for $146. I've seen these RRP for $279 and the cheapest I found of this model on eBay was $189.
Has all the bells and whistles so I thought I'd jump on board the dash cam revolution.

I received it as well. Now we need to get a list up of who wants what so that both purchasers get a discount. For example, I might be interested in some Maxtrax 299 + 150 = 450 for two pairs - 225 each which is about as cheap as I've seen but I don't want two pairs.

Swannie, as per the PM, I've made a rational decision (for once some might say!) and have many other things to spend the money on.
Anyone else want to take up Swannie's offer to take a set of Maxtrax?

latest supercheap catalogue has cheap firepits and butane heaters
flat pack firepits $25 not sure how good they are but its not a massive outlay to find out.
Picked one of these up & finally got a chance to try it out last weekend.
The instructions only refer to charcoal & heat beads, but we used it with real timber & it worked really well. Very light gauge metal & so it warped a bit, but still perfectly usable. No ash or rubbish left on the ground afterwards, except for a very small amount which fell out of the hand-grip holes.
(http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn171/graemefitz1/Fireplace_zpsqb6yuvaz.jpg) (http://s304.photobucket.com/user/graemefitz1/media/Fireplace_zpsqb6yuvaz.jpg.html)
Not only a nice fire, but comes with a cooking grill that also makes a pretty darn good toaster - much quicker than 1 slice at a time over the gas burner, when you want 8 slices for brekky! :D (& let's the 2 boys help with cooking breakfast! 8))
(http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn171/graemefitz1/Toaster_zps9q637qod.jpg) (http://s304.photobucket.com/user/graemefitz1/media/Toaster_zps9q637qod.jpg.html)
&, as a special bonus, it's even portable, while still burning! Bit of a strong breeze had come up this way, so we moved round the end of the tent & out of the wind - night before, we'd moved round the end & sat under the tent flap with the fire out the front, then moved it back round the front an hour later when the drizzly rain stopped ;D

Currently $35, so if it's only going to be used every once in a while, I reckon they're worth it.

Looks interesting but it is only a Yamaha engine and then assembled with by a third party with their choice of components so I wonder what the quality is like and if it gets close to being as quiet and reliable?
Tempted to go down to Sydney tools in Brookvale and have a look...

That is good to hear. We have the cheap ones from bunnings and the don't seem to be holding up.

yep, I have the aldie chairs too, they are fantastic quality and $20 was a bargain. I grabbed a 'spare' as the price was so good. The ground cover mat is another story, not quality at all. It is like a really big version of the anti slip stuff used in cupboards. Wasn't impressed but didn't think I could return it just because I didn't like it. It is still in the bag nearly 12 mnths later.

I got a bargain today at a garage sale. I picked up an old Hults Bruk 2Kg axe for $3.00 It's pretty old, but only fine pitting from surface rust and still has the original bevel on the edge with no dings in the edge. The top edge had been hammered a bit, but it ground down OK. These are Swedish made axes and really good quality.

Not camping related but picked up a 15 model clubsport R8 25 anerversry $10 grand of asking price.

Thanks Graeme. Picked up their recovery tracks for $125 less the voucher (which I'll undoubtably spend on some other "essential" next month :). I actually didn't want Maxtracks because the motorised jockey wheel on the camper won't work on them.
-
Was trying to decide if I "needed" to get a solar blanket, but with the SCA 45w version for $125 and a $50 eBay voucher, I figured it's worth a try.
-
Not camping related but picked up a 15 model clubsport R8 25 anerversry $10 grand of asking price.
Very nice mate

Went into Kulkyne over the weekend for a look while in Mildura for a long weekend...bad idea lol.
Got myself a semi-rigid solar panel - 155w marked down from $599 to $250 as it was their last one :). Not the best for camper trailer as it is supposed to be mounted but can lay it in the back of the ute to power the fridge, and hopefully in a couple of years I'll be able to afford a caravan, and can then stick it on top :)
If anybody else is in the area -they also had a 124w solar folding panel with reg etc marked down from $499 to $249 -also last one

Not really sure if this is a bargain for anyone. Just saw it parked down on the main drag. Says 610,000km. Obviously petrol/gas and bonnet paintwork damaged.
Don't know who owns it or what it's like, but mobile number there for you to call.

Graysonline auctions have a Landcruiser LX ute up for auction ending friday around noon.
You would need to pick it up at Robinson River NT, and maybe get it serviced before driving it,
but the auction is starting at $9.00
It even has what looks like twin wheel carriers on the bullbar.
Bargain for someone that can do some basic touch ups :

The IKEA Jansjo 2w LED Clamp Spotlight reading lights are only $14.95 in WA & SA. $24.99 rest of Aus. Going to grab a few for the trailer and convert the plugs over to Anderson Powerpoles.
Note: Further googling seems to indicate that the power adaptor spits out 4v or so. I'll update with actual voltage when I pick them up, may need to run these off of a USB plug or a 12v-5v converter.

I was wondering around BCF yesterday and spotted one of these.
Had a clearance sticker on it and a price of $119. I noticed on the shelf it had a price of $75. I compared the two codes and they were the same. Sales guy confirms $75 but its the last one. I got it for $60 no hose. A quick visit to my parents and I now have the required hose :) Happy days

Shame i'll have to wait until April for them :-(

Saved $3000+ on a hot water service. Probably Vic only, but a Quantum reverse cycle 270 or 340 litre unit supplied, installed, old unit removed for $118. Applies to replacement of externally mounted electric units. Actually ordered two, one for a rental property. Apparently the cost is covered by gov subsidies so thank you tax payers of Australia.

Ic1500 are a great charger. Compact with lots of battery types covered. Mine was flogged a few years ago. Replaced it with the ic2500. All this gave me was the option to control the amp rate for smaller batteries but I have other chargers for that.

is that a seat for Linda?
Either way, I'll be interested in your feedback as I've often wondered if these are good or become kitchen appliances after one or two trip? You know, that appliance that seemed like a good idea at the time, but end up in the back of the cupboard

I hope they have more in stock where you are. I ordered on line for in store pickup. No contact until I chased it up three times. They are hopefully sending me one in the post now as the local store has none, even though the stock levels said they did.

have read of people fitting those on the rear spare for firewood carrying duties. I would think on heavily corrugated roads they'd vibrate all the bolts loose, but prior preperation of nylock nuts etc could likely help some.

Sorry, I've misled you a bit, its not mine, its for sale at a funeral home.
I was looking at hearses and found it.
I reckon a hearse would make a great "Art of Grass" mowing vehicle...... bringing lawns back from the dead. ;D
