question for the builders

hi all,

bit of a left field question...

i am looking to build the wife a clothesline at our new home...

we have a fairly narrow space down the side of the house, that i am wanting to utilise.

my thought was to get some 100x100 hardwood posts and use some stirrup anchors, bolted into the existing concrete (roughly 6/7 metres apart).  then, attach a piece of timber at right angles to the upright posts, with some eyebolts screwed in for the line to traverse through.

my issue is:

when i looked at the stirrups, unless i used stirrups that were 200mm or higher (which i don't really want to do), i cant see how i can hammer in a dynabolt to secure the stirrup to the concrete.  there isn't enough room to get a good strike with a hammer onto the head of the dynabolt.

am i missing something?  is there a trick that i don't know about?  does my issue make sense?

any thoughts appreciated.

You can use some washers or a plate with a hole drilled to hammer the dynabolts through and tighten to lock the pin in place, then remove the nut to take the washers/plate off.
Just need to be careful when putting the stirrup on over the bolts, that you don't push them back in the hole.

For a job like that you could also use screw bolts;

but, your second comment makes sense... i could just use a normal socket to get them in OK, i assume...

not really fussed on the first one, because it's not high enough off the ground, for my liking...  and would prefer the post to be resting on something, rather than just be held up by bolts...

and i couldn't really decipher how the second one worked...    also, not available in town anywhere...

My opinion is that those stirrups aren't designed for lateral loads. They are designed to hold a direct weight only.
Not a lot of weight in a clothesline but put some wet clothes on it and add in a decent wind and I'd be a bit worried.
Can you core or drill a post into the existing ground.

Not really... it's a bit of a tight spot...

Not sure if you can dig a small hole for a footing but these hold up paling fencs on a lot of our high end homes and are super strong

Use screw bolts as per the first reply. You can also remove them later etc. Dyna bolts are not the right fixing in this instance.
Otherwise you can hammer in true bolts to the correct depth and put the stirrup over the top later but you'd want to be confident in your set out ability.

Yes, I was thinking of True Bolts when I wrote Dynabolts in the first part of my reply.

i ended up finding some of these in town (tucked in the back, on a dusty shelf at the BGS)...

these should give me a bit of clearance from the ground and also be easy enough to use the suggested screw bolts to fasten to the existing concrete...
