And with nissan going diesel,  Yota goes no more V8 Petrol

Quote

The Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series has had its V8 petrol engine culled, leaving the more expensive twin-turbo V8 diesel the sole powertrain option in Australia.

After the petrol variant disappeared from the company's local consumer site, a Toyota Australia spokesperson confirmed the changes with Drive, issuing the following statement:

Toyota Australia can confirm from August 2019 production it has discontinued all V8 petrol LandCruiser 200 variants, due to low sales volumes.
There is no change to the availability of V8 diesel variants and we have no plans for this to change.
We can also confirm that there is no change to the LC70's availability of drivetrains as a result of this.

Nissan is going diesel? I've not heard about this, the Y62 Series 5 is due out soon, and there is no suggestion it is moving away from its current petrol engine?

Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series V8 diesel to end production March 2021

https://www.drive.com.au/news/toyota-landcruiser-200-series-v8-diesel-to-end-production-march-2021-124623.html?trackLink=SMH0

Fans who want to secure one of the last examples of the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series V8 turbo diesel will need to get a move on.

The Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series V8 turbo diesel is approaching the end of the production line, with the last batch due to be built in March 2021.

Toyota dealers have been asked to stock up and place their final orders after being advised production of the LandCruiser 200 Series will come to an end after 14 years, making it the longest-running LandCruiser wagon since the 1960s.

Toyota dealers have also been advised there will be a limited edition Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series available in the first half of next year.

QuoteThe 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series is due in local showrooms between October and December this year

Pricing is not due to be announced until closer to the on-sale date, but Toyota dealers have told CarAdvice they expect the price to increase by $10,000 to $15,000 depending on the model.

an optional new electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (e-KDSS) improves off-road performance via a larger suspension stroke "achieved by effectively disabling the front and rear stabiliser bars".

"The adoption of a multi terrain select function ... automatically judges the road surface and selects the best driving mode," says Toyota.

Toyota says the new model has increased wheel articulation, to better handle off-road obstacles.

Wonder how much they will be?  ???

Will be interesting. Asking price in Perth for a late model low mileage 200 series is around $120k at one warehouse dealer I look at.
Will new be cheaper than old?

Here in Brissy a local large Toyota dealer just sold a two year old hilux for $2k more than new. Buyer didn't want to wait for delivery and there was no stock available. Crazy times at the moment

Looking at the site this morning they are asking about the same for a 2013 Prado as I paid for mine in 2017 with half as many kilometres.
World has gone mad when used car prices go up.  :D

The bil just bought a brand new 200 from toowong Toyota, he picks it up in about 3 weeks. They gave him $20k trade in for his 2011 3L turbo diesel gxl prado with 375,000 Kim's on it. That seems like a lot more than I would have expected.

Bit of history of the new and old cruiser

GG

So by their own admission, if you want to take a Land Cruiser on a rough road, you should take an 80.

Go the 80... :cup: :cup:
Geoff and Kay

1999 GU TD42T wagon
2005 Coota Camper - gone, but never forgotten
2020 North Coast 15' Titanium - tandem, of course

Land Cruiser.....the Patrol that Toyota try to build.....

Foo

So the pov pack would be now $100000+?  ???

So long as you have tried your best, you should have no regrets.

A bit more info for those following along at home.

Personally I won't be buying one, but I still like to see the engineering involved in getting these big ugly things to move.
The engine (or more specifically the turbo) setup sounds interesting, not so sure on that new gearbox though.
