I love the seller's choice of numberplate (SIK-074)... clearly an optimist! [in SA if you use an "S" or "R" series numberplate you can choose your own rego for much less that private plates]

Well if you took 25, 29, 31 or 38 your a winner.

Overheating, replaced various bits of hose and reconnected heater circuit. Still overheating

Backed off timing slightly seems better. Recheck at Gawler. Next option remove radiator and replace water pump

So about 60km/h then, that would take the 14hr hrs of driving and turn it into about 24hrs... You should probably push onto Mildura.

Stopped for a coffee. It's about 8° an Bongo seals as well as Turnbulls cabinet or the Sharks defensive line.

Go to take off, no tail lights. 12v to switch but nothing at lights.

Found a round red torch, some duct tape and cable ties to the bumper.....

Think we're all watching this with interest...

We had a 1992 Mazda E2000 van that was no rocket ship until we rebuilt the engine - the ability to cruise at 100kmh was a revelation... and the steering ensured we didn't go much faster....

Farnarkling around with parking lights took up quite a bit of time, so we pushed (80km/h) to try and make up time and overheated.

Bit behind the required run rate we've stopped at Renmark for the nite. SIK074 has covered about 280km today, 1200 to go tomorrow.

Aside from the roadside repairs needed going like a train.....sort of

Front drivers and rear passenger shocks are stuffed so we get a nice little pogo thing happening

the clutch slips going up hill witch shouldn't be a problem if we get to the Hay plains, but after that could be interesting.

Time for some intoxicating liquor whilst contemplating if we should change the water pump tonight

Bit late or might be early enough for you RE: The water pump, You could  just carefully screw a small bolt into the shaft weep hole with a heap of sealant [ thats if its the pump shaft seal thats leaking ] Would save time doing a remove of old rusty bolts that might snap and cause more troubles ..
RE: The over heating,  Wonder if it has a thermostat fitted ? Could be stuck almost shut or some gumbies remove them altogether  but forget to fit a restrictor plate in to slow the water flow, so it gets enough  time to be cooled by the radiator .
RE: The Hay plains what direction does the wind blow from at this time of year, Tail wind your laughing, Head wind you better get out and start pushing  ;D ;D

Why when you drop your shifter in the engine bay in the motel carp ark does it sound like a shotgun ? And when you take the skin off your knuckles not an utterance?

DONT  forget to bleed air from the donks cooling system from the highest point above the cylinder head .. Reason being the radiator is low down and they can get an air lock that can result in a blown head .. Has happened to many a car Ford Falcons in particular .

Probably because it's more interesting than staying at home doing the same thing as most other weekend's.

So has the water pump made a difference to cooling and therefore max speed?
