I've been playing with my old original xbox a bit lately. Actually I have 3 of them in the shed. Started when I was looking for something to stream digital music from a network storage drive, and I loaded a newer version of XBMC (now XBMC4XBOX) onto one of them. reformatted the drives and loaded all the old game discs back on the HDD. I realised that I hadn't even played some of them, so been playing all the old shootemups. They are still slow at scanning the music into the library though, about 24hrs for 2950 albums :(

Was going to try using the PS3 for the shed music, but the fan is so bloody noisy in them. Plus, unless you have an original that hasn't had firmware upgraded, and you can possibly run Linux on it, the music interface is absolute crap.

Using a Raspberry Pi for music streaming in the house, loaded with either Volumio or Rune music players.

Dragged the PS3 out the other day and was playing Duke Nukem. Not the best of games, but funny as hell.

The PS3 version was Duke Nukem forever. When Duke 3D came out I wasted hours playing that. Funny stuff. Did enjoy the original though.

The 2TB green box sounds good. Do you have much music on it, and if so, how did you get by with the filename limitations? I was thinking of trying xboxify to rename the files, but remembering the problems with link dropouts when transferring files once before, I decided to go the network route.

Have heaps of music on it in mp3 and flac, haven't had any problems with filenames apart from when I ftp them from PC yo Xbox but that is easy to fix.

Yeah, I found anything that had more than 42 characters, or had , + & plus a couple of others, would stop transfer and give an "invalid file name" error. No big deal when I only had a few GB of music, but I couldn't be assed going through almost 1TB and fixing them.

After having a bit of fun with the grandkids on a couple of old original Xboxs, linked (with one in the shed, and the other in the house) I need some suggestions for games more suitable for kids between 6 and 9. We did play Ghost Recon and a couple of other shoot-em-ups, but probably not the best games for them. (they enjoyed it too much  >:D)

Basically what I'm after is multiplayer via system link, and not as violent as the shoot-em-ups. What would be good is games that play co-op mode as well, but I don't think they had any co-op via system link games, just on single screen setup.

Sorry mate. Can't really help. Being along time since I had to worry about games for a 6 year old. Lol.  Maybe some of the EA sporting games might be the go. Or some of the racing games??  If all else fails just get them shooting hookers and stealing cars on GTA5.

My son is living with us at the moment. He is 19, but I had a game of golf with him on the PS4 the other day that was good fun?  As fun as golf will ever be anyway.

I've seen a couple of games based on Lego movie & so on when I've been in EB, so there'd be something there.

Looks like a shopping trip for Grand-dad & the kidlets! :D

@ Oldmate - Haha, wait till your son has kids of his own, then you'll have to learn all about kreeping little kids amused again. It's all good fun though.

@ Fizzie - Yeah, I did a couple of Google searches about kids games, and they did pop up. But just watching the fun they had with the shootemups, I think it's the interaction with system link games that's the real kick for them. Just doesn't seem right blowing up your sister with a hand grenade though....  ??? Or when they both cheered me on when taking out their mum with a sniper rifle at 500yds on the run...  >:D

Awesome, you're training them well! :D

I can see that it's going to be fun when they're back at school this week & have to do the obligatory "What did you do on your holidays" painting - explosions, bodies & various bit's strewn across the place, Mum's head being blown off... >:D

If we don't hear from you, we'll understand! :police:

Even without my influence, the grandson's teacher mentioned to his mum, that he drew a picture of himself holding a large gun. His dad does a bit of hunting, so I can understand that. But she added, at least it wasn't a picture of himself drinking a beer...  ;D
