Bathurst 2015
« on: October 04, 2015, 06:55:48 AM »
The footy is over so now it's time to get down to business. One more week to go and the mountain will come alive!

Bird - yes I know it's taxi racing and the race cars do not resemble a road going car, blah blah blah.

It is still an engineering feat to get to the end of the race, and the mountain always throws in a few twists and turns.

Even Jayco is getting in on the act http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/retro-class-for-kelly-brothers-bathurst-road-trip

Going on form, it's hard to go past one of the Prodrive FG-X's.  I'd love to see Reynolds and Canto take the flag.  Would be great to see Canto win and also give Prodrive/FPR a hat trick with all 3 cars.

and the Merc's finally get a decent sponsor and decent looking livery.

Still love the Annual Bathurst Race regardless of the cars that are racing these days although i still miss the old muscle cars.
We had a good win over Eng at the RWC this morning and have the NRL Grand Final this arvo. All is good. :cup: :cup:

Interested to see how the all girl team goes!

I do agree that the Prodrive team is definitely going well, but then there is the olds and bolds that could easily win! Lowndes has been at the end of this race more than one time whilst other holdens are already tucked into bed!
Cheers

Anyone seen plans for the new track?

Not sure if that is just for bikes, as it skips the mountain all together........

I would love to see Dean Canto become the new Glenn Seton and never win the race..............

But on form his team is in a purple patch, If a Ford has to win I would like Chas to be it

The last time I was in Bathurst for the race was about 15 or 20 years ago. McPhillamy Park was always a bit of a mad area. The photo below is a tame one compared to some of the things that went on. Not long after that shot was taken, a group of guys (all wearing viking helmets) drove down in a purpose built car that looked straight out of mad max and all holding sledge hammers and then proceeded to overturn a stranded car before laying waste to it with the sledge hammers and then setting it on fire. It was pretty common to see the police roll through the area in their hundreds and then beat a hasty retreat as they got pelted with anything people were holding. I was standing around the donut ring one day watching a car do donuts and it strayed too close to the people watching it. A drunk guy holding a beer in one hand had the beer knocked out of his hand by the rear end of the car as it swung past him at a great rate of knots. He laughed, shook his hand and grabbed another beer

I heard things had been cleaned up a lot since those days and I am planning a trip down there in 2016 with my aging father who first brought me down there when I was 8 years old. 36 years later I am bringing him down to relive some memories so I am hoping it has been cleaned up somewhat as being on the set of Mad Max every day isn't my thing any more

I think I am going to go camping for the weekend. I just can't get into it this year. I even knocked back free tickets for the family today.

I'm going to watch the whole race on TV,  you miss so much at the track, but if I lived close , sat top ten shootout would be good to watch.

I like watching the touring car masters and the shootout is good as well.

Just no mojo for any of it this year. Must be getting older, cars and modifying them were my life as a young fella. It sh!ts me to have to change the oil these days.

Is it not on free to air? I have fox but no sports channels. I had a free trial during the clipsal 500 and the coverage was great plus being able to watch the other categories you don't normally see made it even better.
