Just in the process of renewing H&C Ins.

Ing put their renewal up by ~$600 (or a tidy 24%!!! :o >:() & when I rang them to ask if anything could be done as I've been with them for 7 years, basically couldn't give two hoots :'( >:(, so looks like time to move on! ;D

Currently looking at Budget Direct & need to set a building value.

Anybody got a current $ / m2 figure to work with?

Fizzie,

When I played in the insurance space we relied on Cordells valuation tools. I just visited the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) website and low and behold there is an online tool that serves your purpose and guess what - it is Cordells.

For my money -do your homework and check the PDS against the premium before you reach your ultimate decision. There are vast differences between policies.

Recently went through this process.

Budget Direct seemed cheaper on first look, but by the time it was like-for-like the price was much the same as our current insurer.

I found that the premium for building insurance could be reduced quite a bit by increasing the excess.
I wouldn't claim for relatively minor incidents anyway, so no issue.

The same approach didn't make much difference to the contents insurance premium, so left the excess as it was.

Good luck with it....

Thanks Geoff

Yeah, Budget had a 30% discount for new online accounts so took advantage of that, but their normal price would have only been <$100 from ING.

But as you say, increasing the excess had quite an effect - going from $1000 to $5000 dropped the premium by ~$500!, then contents from $500 to $750 was another $50 ;D

Oh, while I think, my original question seems to work out at ~$3000/m2!

For you tech heads.
I've searched, it's done my head in clicking on google searches that have nothing to do with what I'm trying to do.

So, our 4wd club has a private Facebook group, real time ability to reply, comment/ppst.
Now, so some members don't use FB or Messanger, which is cool.
However they are happy to use Whatsap.
I've been trying to find a app or work around so members can cross post on both platforms.
Is there such an animal?
Or is it I have to be the middle man and copy & paste each way?

Cheers for any advice.

What’s with everybody fitting bright yellow hammerlocks and lifting hooks to their tow bars these days? Swinging around like a set of balls. You used to only see them on tradie utes, now they are everywhere. Is this the new version of fluffy dice hanging from the rearview mirror?

I have black tow hooks, on the 80, work ute and MUX.
Yep, they are stamped, rated(4.7T)
Buggar screwing in Bow shackle pins, hook, clip done.

What I don't get, is those that have fitted Klearview Mirrors, and drive around without towing anything and have then fully extended.

Nearly all of these people have the hooks fitted the wrong way around , they are relying on the retainer to hold the chain into the hook .

Definitely agree. If you can see the gate from the rear it's at it's weakest point. Easy to put the chains on, but if it goes pear shaped, the chain will rip that gate off

I've had the yellow hammerlocks for years , but don't have the big hooks. The hammerlocks are great for an extra bit of chain link , which I needed.

Here's a question for those living in the little pointy bit down the bottom ;D

Now, I've always called the place Lon-seston ??? (& I know Lawn-seston is frowned upon! ;D)

Watching Antiques Roadshow last night, & they had a bloke on from Launceston in Cornwall, but he pronounced it as Lons-ton, while the presenter said Lawns-ton ???

Any of you ever heard that pronunciation before ???

I used to call in to Tassie for work and I was always told it’s proper pronunciation was Lonsten, but as an Aussie we like to drawl so lawnceston is acceptable in my books. ;D ;D

Hi, those of us who are fortunate enough not to live in Lonnie don't really care. It's just a foggy, blokey sort of place with pockets of perfection around the circumference.

As a former Tasmanian I am pleased to see that the north / south rivalry hasn't diminished.

When I was a young bloke the southerners used to say that the beer from the north - Boags - resembled the output of a feline pet. Funnily enough the northerners said the same about Cascade. Now the liquor outlets have a thousand varieties so I guess the parochial choices have all but disappeared.

It is definitely pronounced Lonseston or Lonnie but thinking phonetically where you wash your clothes is it the lawndry or the londry, do you lonch a rocket or lornch it ? Anyway austastar I think we are about to discover, following your post, just how many Launcestonians visit the forum.

Oh and by the way - the one beer that we mainlanders can't buy on the big island is Cascade Draught. Can you please tell the brewery that there is a ship now that connects the two islands so they can toss a few slabs our way?

Thanks

Rowlie

To me it makes more sense to have the hooks on the camper/caravan and rated G shackles on the 4by. I admit, I have no knowledge of legalities or anything else related to hooks (currently still use D shackles) but I have considered changing to hooks.

They are quicker and easier to hook up (pun intended) than D shackles
