Imagine have this brush up against you while swimming?

Was taken on Fraser Island about a week ago.

There was plenty of identical ones at Crecent Head a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they sting but not to bad. My mate was just picking them up by the top and throwing them out of the way of the kids. No stings.

They look worse than they are.

If they have a dark blue ring around the base of the head, they sting.

Was dodging them when doing a beach run from Smokey cape to Cresso two weeks ago.

Obviously there right up and down the east coast.

None that I saw had stingers.

never seen one of them that size washed up before, though i'm sure it's happened and i've not seen it.
so it begs the question.....other then the usually rubbish, what else have people seen washed up on Fraser Island before then?
i've seen a boat wreck and a sea snake that come straight to mind, guessing the odd turtle would be in there also.

SHIP WRECK WAS  DOWN BOTTOM END OF EASTERN BEACH

That chunk of boat has been there for about 2 and half years at least now.

I'm surprised it's still in that condition really, after all that time.

A few of these were on the beach last time I was there.  Hopefully they had died of old age.   Kevin

Not much left of it now Jeepers and it has moved around along the beach too ..
Back in about 92 there was that many large brown  jellyfish along the eastern beach it was like driving on a cobblestone road, made a hell of a mess under the truck and stunk to high heaven after two weeks up there.. by the time we got home it was near impossible to get the muck off even with a preasure washer .
Some one did in a baby Manta ray

Is that a sea snake, or a snake that founds its way to the sea?  I always thought sea snakes grew to a max of approx 2 ft?

cupcake

I'd say sea snake, note the flat tail.

as mentioned already, i was assuming as much being a sea snake by the flat shape of the tail

A fully loaded Toyota land cruiser will do that
On that beach, it would have a flat head in no time flat too.

sea snake, and quite common in the area. I worked on a trawler for a while and I've seen them up to about 8ft long. It's not unusual to get 30 or 40 a night in the nets at different times of the year.

I danced like Peter Garrett when I had to remove one of those bastard snakes from the cast net.

Spent a lot of time around the southern end of Moreton bay and you would see those jelly fish in plague proportions. Their sting is no worse than sea lice, in fact my brothers and I used to throw them at each other for laughs - lucky we weren't allergic I guess!
