There are really bad Mondays

I'm sitting here enjoying a nice glass of red wine.

I received news today that two good people that I have worked with over the years, passed away quickly over the weekend....both from cancer....this is on top of another work friend, who received news last week that the cancer they said they had cut out, would need continual operations for the rest of his life to keep it at bay. However long that is.

The two that passed away were 62 & 65. The one that needs continual ops, is 50.

Makes you think about how close to home, the times you had, and still need to have.

Needed to offload.

Mark, sorry to hear your news. I'm sure we're all thinking and supportive of you.

Seems inevitable in this day that someone either relative, friend or work colleague is bound to be affected by this scourge.

Bloke at work his missus works in cancer research, but in reality they are making progress but not at the speed we need

I know how you're feeling Mark as I also had news that a workmate died from cancer over the weekend.  She was only 50 and couldn't make it to her daughters 21st in Setember.

We found out in January my mrs has cancer, she is only 50 and very fit and health. She is the last person I would ever expect it to happen to.
Let me tell you, it turns your world upside down over night!
She is fighting it well and even though we have had some setbacks, she is still doing well. I keep a brave face to keep her positive, but man I don't don't how she is doing it. Still have a few months of treatment left yet.

Going to the RBH every week is a huge eye opener, you would be amazed at the amount of people there undergoing treatment for cancer. Many people are only in their 30's and 40's (the kids go to a different part).
I must say, the staff and doctors at the RBH are champion people, we really do have the best health system in the world IMHO.

I have totally changed my outlook for life, I don't live to work anymore. No use being the richest man in the grave! The good news is that we have done more camping this year than ever before, we just plan it around when she is having her better days.

I have often thought about putting a post on myswag about this as back in September last year my wife was diagnosed with melanomas. They have already cut a few out but unfortunately the tumours keep popping up.

Now she has completely changed her diet to avoid all sugars, processed and as much natural as possible as cancer survives on sugar. Now I will say in doing this she has managed to get rid of a few tumours. Before anyone asks this is with no treatment as there is basically no treatment available.

Every time we go to either the PA or the Mater hospitals most of the waiting rooms are filled with elderly people in which none deserve it.

Here is a little insight to my wife and our life, she is 29, hates the sun and has never done anything wrong to anyone. We were married 3years ago and were meant to be trying for kids but have been told to stop trying. The doctors have only given her a 20% chance to survive 2years and a 5% chance to survive 5years.


It breaks your heart to see your wife go through it. It no only affects her but it affects everyone.


So all I can say is get out there and enjoy life. Don't keep putting it off. It's not worth it

My mum died of it 3yrs and 7days ago.

Mum worked her arse off all her life mostly for an ungrateful ****wit Doctor who after over 30yrs working for him when mum retired (way older than she should have) didn't even give her a card.
They struggled for years to have kids to and in the end only had me. (poor bastards)
Her boss used to call mum from the Gold Coast on holidays asking if mum could cancel patients for the next few days as he was enjoying his holiday, and oh by the way can you go to his house 6am to let some tradesman in to build up his empire - stupidly she did many times over the years...
This goes with the compulsory overtime nearly every day for 30yrs when he would get called to surgery at 4-5pm, and mum was stuck in the "rooms" with patients waiting for him to come back and see them.
Mum never drank, never smoked, never did drugs, and worked hard - and I only ever heard mum complain once in her whole life, that was when she was in intense pain in her last fortnight, she said '...why me, what have I done to deserve this'... and it does my head in to wonder why too.
I miss her badly, she should be enjoying retirement right now.

Thats real Tuff stuff mate. Unfortunately all too common as well. Just heard the same bad news about a friend who's cancer has advanced to the brain.
Puts life back into perspective i tell ya. Problem is its easy to drift off whats importantant in life until you get these reminders.

I lost my fiancee 5 yrs ago and my mum 3 yrs ago. Both from breast cancer. My heart goes out to all of you affected by this horrible disease. There are some very good people working very hard to find a cure. Fingers crossed the find one soon.

My Family has done the relay for life for about 10 years now. We started in memory of my wives uncle and we lit a candle in his memory, we now light  over 40 in memory of loved ones who are fighting or have succumbed.

It's a bloody sad and scary just how many people are battling cancer, I remember as a kid you used to hear about the odd person who was suffering but these days everyone appears to be directly effected. My mum and two of her sisters had breast cancer and one other sister is battling secondary bone cancer and the sadist thing is she's only just turned 42 and has 4 young kids the youngest being only 5, as said above create good memories because you never know it could bite you on the arse
