Pacific Baza Has Taken Up Residence Here

We're pretty stoked that this beautiful bird has decided to nest on our property. They're not that common so we're looking forward to see what transpires. I'd seen it around during the last week or two (normally being alerted by the Bossy Boot Mickeys) & today saw it with twigs in its beak which I'm taking as a good sign. We're so lucky to have a number of rare and/or threatened animals here.

We had a pair next in a spotted gum about 10M from the house late last year.  They hatched and raised 2 chicks sucessfully.  I have started to see them again this year.  Not sure if they return to the same nest or not.
This is one of the chick on the ground in January this year on a 44 degree  day (farking HOT)

Awesome!
We've also got a pair which have nested in a tree in the backyard for the last 3 years. Have seen them around again but as yet don't seem to be nesting. They're brilliant to watch and seem to eat an amazing number of stick insects. Great to see such awesome birds keeping the dream alive!!

Enjoy as they're a pleasure to watch!

Steffo1 - you're fortunate indeed. No Bazas on our place yet but my farm/creek/adjoining National Park sightings list stands at just over 108. NOT that numbers count - it's the connection with birds, and the chance to see them again and again. We planted 18000 eucalypts about 17 years ago and did not expect that they would bring resident goshawks and pardalotes, but they sure did. I'm pretty new to MySwag but stoked to hear from birdwatchers. Could we maybe start a bird theme thread? There's plenty of fabulous bird photos coming through.
