Hello from Rogerthatv2 from Brisbane
« on: June 01, 2014, 08:35:38 PM »
Hi All

I have been lurking for some time now ( a few years) and got lots of useful information.  We currently have a 2003 Model Built Tough Camper Trailer however we maybe changing this over soon for a Jayco Hawk Outback.

We like to get away as much as possible but we have been a bit slack over the last couple of years, work and a toddler however our daughter Abigail is now at the perfect 3 year old age and loves camping.  We spent the weekend at Gordon Country and will be off again this coming long weekend for a few nights at Clarence River Wilderness Lodge.  We have a 150 Series Prado VX D4D that tows the camper with ease, fingers crossed the Jayco will be no different.

Thanks for a great forum, Cheers Dan

Welcome, the Prado won't be too concerned with the jayco, just make sure you get it out of the driveway often.
Cheers

Thanks all for the warm welcome. After checking out quite a few Jayco Hawk Outbacks we have decided to keep our soft floor for a little while longer and wait for the right one to come up instead of jumping in quickly and regretting it later. I think I would prefer the 2008 on models as well so will save some more. I also have to make sure that it will fit in our garage (and be able to maneuver it once up there). One of the great things about our current setup is I can set it up fully in our garage to dry and tinker etc. after the rain we had at Gordon country on the weekend we had to pack it up wet, so this is a big plus.

Cheers all, Dan

Well big change on plans this weekend. Went to caravan and camping show yesterday, saw the new Outback Hawk so it ignited an old flame. Postponed the trip away and started the hunt again, just driving home now with our new to us 2009 Jayco Outback Hawk. Tows great and got a fantastic deal.

Will start a buildup thread tomorrow on it. Living in the neighbours yard tonight until I clean it up and pack it ready for its maiden voyage next weekend.

Quick night shot photo...

Cheers Dan

Lol, quick work yes, but I did not expect to be towing it home tonight however they were keen to do the deal and get it out of the driveway.  I thought I would be picking it up Monday if we got it for the right price.  Its got the usual awnings, bag flys, annex however also has a microwave, 2 x 100AH AGM deep cycle batteries and roof racks.  The best thing I would say about it, well looked after but in need of a VERY good clean and some TLC.  This is our day planned tomorrow as well as getting our current soft floor camper ready for sale.

We had been looking at 2006 models, we picked this up for the same price and very happy with the deal - they had bought a new van and needed this gone ASAP.  Couple of small little issues like a broken front boot lock (about a 2 minute fix) and 2 small 2cm tears in the kitchen fly screen but nothing that was a deal stopper.  The 2006 models that we had been looking at were far worse.  We saw the same model at Brisbane Camper land today for $4k more than what we paid and ours is in far better nick.

Now back to my garage duties, need to make a hole big enough to fit it.

Cheers Dan

Dan, well done. You will have many tremendous holidays in your new home away from home. Wind up trailers suit a particular style of camping, and if that is yours then they are unbeatable. Good buy!! :cup: :cup:

Hi Dan!   ;D

Hey Shane, long time mate. I am sure I spotted you and your family at ikea a month or so ago? Was going to say hi but thought not just in case it was not.

Would have almost definitely been us! We've just about lived at the place over the last 12 months, while undertaking a massive house renovation. It has got in the way of camping adventures, so once complete we can't wait to get back out there with the Triton and Lifestyle CT (links below)..

All my TJM mods are still trucking along, but I did swap the Triton tub back into the ute, and sold the alloy tray. It wasn't very kid friendly once we bred!
