Arb garage sale this Saturday.  List of items available was published today. Keen on a heavily discounted winch - but then probably so is everyone.  My question is did anyone go to last year's sale and what sort of frenzy should I expect....  Replies greatly appreciated.

There is a list of the participating stores and the sale items on the website.....  Some look heavily discounted and items vary a bit between stores. Not all Arb stores are participating either..... >:(

Pretty realistic with my expectations but to make sure no one gets in before me I plan to chain myself to the front door overnight. ....

That's how it usually works...... they've gotta be good for a free sausage in bread though.  Don't they?

My advise is that if you really want something then make sure you get there before they open. Was very busy last year here in Tasmania at the Launceston store.

I sent the list out to a few friends and they have already gone and visited the store here to make sure the items they are after are the ones that fit and were told it will be a case of first in first served on Saturday morning, just like an ordinary garage sale.

Andrew_C

My info from last year is they don't sell stuff to mates. I tried it last year.

Get there before it opens, wait at the gate and if you know what you are after, go in (you can run if you are as desperate as some of the other desperados) , find it straight away and buy it.
There will be a crowd there, and most people are after big ticket items such as tents, winches, bull bars.

Some of the other stuff goes slower and if you are after suspension or vehicle specific stuff etc, it would be good to know part numbers as you may need to go through a big pile of stuff in boxes.

If anybody is going to Kilsyth please PM me.

I am unable to make it but very interested in acquiring the MSTLP15G 120 Prado MSA Airbag front bucket seat covers.

I have found that you have to look carefully at what's on sale. Went to a similar one at a rival 4x4 specialist this year. Only a few items at true sale price to get you in the store and those were stock or clearance items that had to be cleared before end of financial year. I actually found a non sale item more expensive than I had paid a few weeks before.  :D
If you can get in early and get the real bargains then it's a bonus. Just have to battle with all the other early shoppers who want the same item. :-\

Hi guys, we're definitely not allowing any of the items to be held prior to the sale. That goes for 'mates' and staff as well  ;)

I would advise getting their early if there's an item you really want as we've had a lot of interest in the published lists. All stores will be open during normal Saturday trading hours.

Cheers, Sam.

I bought a warn 12000 lbs winch last year from the sale,on later inspection I desired to drop it into Mal Leslie for him to give it the once over..........near on $1200 later I had working winch.
The winch was so full of mud and rusty water it was nearly junk......not very happy.

If the winch was warm as you say, did you need asbestos gloves or just oven mitts to pick it up?

I went to Kilsyth last year.   Waited outside the gate with about 50 others.   About a dozen ran through the gate once it opened.   If there is a special item you really want it's probably best to join the sprinters but there were still bargains to be had by the second wave.
I got a pair of IPF spot lights for about half price.

I think we had a quick chat as we walked down to the shed laughing at everyone one else running.

What's the old saying 'caveat emptor'? This is at the bottom of their 'Download Full Listings' for the SA sale:

Terms and Conditions
Items included in the garage sale are ex-demo, superseded items, factory seconds or ex-rework and, in most cases, are NOT new. All products are sold as is and kits may not be complete.
Fitting is not available on items purchased at the sale and all items must be taken on the day. We cannot store items for pickup at a later date. Likewise, we're unable to put sale items on hold prior to the sale day.

You are 100% correct, I knew when I bought it that it could work out good or I might get stung.
I had always planned to get the winch serviced and upgraded anyway so even thou I say I'm not happy I'm not exactly unhappy either.
I just don't think they should of sold it the way it was but itis what it is.

A tyre deflator is probably the sort of thing you could pick up easily without fighting!   The sprinters go for the roof awnings, winches etc.   The smaller items are more likely to be available in bulk.

V8CRSA/Matt. My apologies, I agree with you, sorry if it didn't  come across that way.  I too was excited when I saw the sale however I was shocked/surprised when I read the terms n conditions. I just wanted to point out to others and make them aware and maybe ask the question is this new, second hand/recondition or missing parts? Before handing over the hard earned $'s.
Don't get me wrong, so longs as all parties are aware of what they are selling/being sold then everyone should be happy.
Good luck in your Bargain hunting 'Swaggers.
