Redhead matches and firestarter in one!
« on: May 07, 2014, 07:58:00 PM »
Don't think it has been mentioned here but cruising down the aisles in masters today and we found these. They are matches and fire starter in one. I thought they were nifty!

When I was younger and pulled a bit of scrub or just done a clean up with my old boy we would just chuck a bit of fuel on it and flick matches, they shy on that in most camp sites..... Not sure why!

Yeah old boy had me concerned too. Now I know I don't have to scrub my knob with them I might try some as well.

As long as they don't brake, fail to ignite and you go through twenty before one works like there sh1+ matches Iam in.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

They work well when straight out of the box, but they do not store well. I've found that after time (once opened) the box absorbs moisture from humidity and the striking surface on the side of the box wont work. Usually after a while I end up lighting them off the stove.

There still a pretty good firelighter though.

As above,
When they were first released several years ago, I bought some , worked for the first trip but after a couple of months went past before the next trip the striker section was buggered. Ended up lighting the match end with a BIC lighter.

Much prefer barby red head matches and the aussie made fire lighters, the onles that look like cardboard.

If you find it essential to carry these fire-lighters?
What's wrong with a  tupperware container, or similar.
You get those Silica moisture absorbent sachets in almost everything nowadays.
Chuck some silica sachets in the container with the matches.
Should help enormously.
