Potential cub camper purchase

Hey guys, great forum!

Been researching camper trailers for the last few months and we are poised to buy, I quite like the current cub daintree le or brumby, they are quite exy new tho! Have read a fair bit on them both here and on the net too, they seem to get good reviews, anyone got any views to add bad or good?

We want a smallish light camper that won't fall apart behind our 200 series when we hit the dirt, I have been dragging my box trailer around and now our tent is getting old it is time to get some comfort on our trips!

The cub seems to fit the bill (apart from price might buy a near new one)

I don't like the rear stabiliser legs sticking down, I guess the fold up ones would solve that tho
Anyone have a newish one they can provide input on? They seem to improve the build and features on each subsequent model

I have a 2001 Kamperoo that I'm doing a bit of work to. I must say that when I called into the showroom in Melbourne (I live in Alice Springs) I was very impressed with the knowledge and time given to me, really great customer service, especially as I was not interested in buying anything. I hope you get a chance to call by the showroom, and from my experience I think you will get your questions answered truthfully, not necessarily "salesman' style. I think they do have pretty good reputation and I guess that will have been earned somehow. Second hand they do keep their value, some I looked at (mainly online) were a lot closer to the original new price even after doing a few km than I was comfortable with.

The Cubs are a nice bit of kit, 
What sort of weight range are you wanting to be around though?
What are the main features that are drawing you into a cub?

The Aussie swags and Kimberly kampers amongst others are built as solid as a tank so they could be a good option too.
You can get into a great used one of those for cub Daintree prices too.
There are a ton of campers on the market that would suit as well. I spent a bit of time with the guys from cub (Sydney) at the show and they are pretty well made.  Although I would say the Kimberly's are a stronger trailer just based on design.
Not saying the cubs aren't strong, just that there is a big market out there and plenty to choose from that may even have more features than the cub in the same price range.

Yea I have talked to the cub guys, I like the Kimberly too but is out of our price range sadly, we are looking to pull around 1000kg, which the cruiser will do easily (I tow cars with the 200 and forget there is a trailer hitched)

The compact size of the cub appeals to me, we travel on our own mostly so having less behind is better in tricky spots

I pretty much have seen every s/hand cub online from the last few years, seems owners tend to hold onto them as not many come up for sale in the kamparoo range but lots of spacematics/supamatics are online at any one time

I didn't think much of the conqueror UEV's but seeing them firsthand they are pretty nice units but a bit all and $$$

We are keeping our options open but basic requirements are:

Light & compact
Quick to erect for overnight stops
Hard floor
Decent kitchenette
Fridge box near kitchen and undercover of awning
Invertor and batterys ( tho I can add electrical items myself)

We had a Brumby and found it to be very good. Easy to tow, compact and solidly built. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Hi Elky,

The Cubs are a great piece of kit for the price.  I have a Spacematic offroad myself.

Sure there are other hard floor campers out there like Kimberley,  Swag etc but my goodness don't they come with a price tag 

Value for money I reckon you can't go past a Cub but then I could be bias as well.

Elky, there is a dedicated CUB page somewhere on here, I'd suggest visiting and checking out what they all have to say, I'm sure there's heaps of heads up advice there.
I own a CUB Spacematic myself and if I had to do it all over, I'd go for a PIONEER.

I guess everyone who makes a purchase of a boat, camper, vehicle, television, whatever - tries to justify it as the best in relation to a whole host of criteria. And I'll do the same.
We bought a second hand 2008 Supermatic Regal Off Road and couldn't be happier with it. It's easy to put up for an overnighter, and to pack up, light and easy to tow, comfortable for the two of us, has a useful kitchen and also storage, etc. We've done the Flinders Ranges, the Birdsville Track, Central Australia, up and down the east coast, and some not quite so challenging camps such as caravan parks in Byron Bay and Sydney. It's never let us down and we're currently preparing for a few months away in the Kimberleys and the Pilbera.
Campers such as the Kimberley are also great, but they also seem to be quite heavy in relation to the Cub, and cost a monza in comparison.
