How many times have you been driving on a country road and you spot a Crow pecking at road kill. You think right this time I've got one and at the last second they just take a step to the side without a care in the world.  In 20+ years of driving I've never hit a Crow.  Can any Swagger claim the ultimate road kill?

Gooday Macca, when I was working in East Gippsland one of our supervisors reckons he got one with his utes aerial while driving up around Omeo.

Got one with a Daihatsu Charade after a night shift, he miss judged my speed LOL. Went back and picked it up took it home and hung it from my chook run fence ( it was dead) it worked a treat keeping other Crows from pinching our eggs!.   Kanga.

Not since they installed cow crossings, silly place to put it though, there was a blind bend.  ;D

Not a crow but we've had a galah take out the side mirror on a Kluger when we disturbed a flock on the side of the road.  Left the mirror dangling by the electrical wires.  I don't think the galah survived that one.

Took one crow out once with the ariel on my ute and another with the top of the windsreen  :cup:. The one that hit the ariel bend the ariel so hard and fast that it came back and dented the top of the door frame.

Have also taken out five pluvers in one go when I crested a hill and they didn't have time to react. What a mess across the front of the ute.

Yep, got one in my Celica along time ago, but to be honest, someone else must have clipped it 1st...it was hopping across the road, thought it would scarper off but Nooo! Bang, both wheels & a lot of feathers!!!

Some great reports there.  Definitely never tried to take out a Cow Danny.  Very funny and great pic.

There was a University study done on the Newell Highway near Moree comparing Truck vs Car crow kills. They reckon that the crows set up a sentry that squawks Carrr, Carr as a car approaches hence not many road kills from Cars. Trucks are a different story.  Crows have not developed enough yet to squawk Truck!

 Macca.

Never hit one and only seen one dead on the road. It was the last Friday the 13th!
Not sure if that is the ultimate bad omen but I'm glad it wasn't me :o

Had an eagle bounce off the bullbar in FNQ last year at about 90kph.  Hit the bar and bounced over the roof.  Must have gone 20m in the air cause I saw it bounce off the dirt road when it landed..... Dead as.  Stupid bugger swooped at us.

Clouty

Never hit one but I caught one on a job that i was on years ago.. Does that count

Beachman

I hit a seagull once which had just started taking off as I passing, so he gently caressed the headlight, slid up the bonnet and then slid up the windscreen and up over the roof and assume into the roof racks.

I'm sure the roof rack would have hurt, but looking in the mirrors I did see loose feathers and then saw him flying away when he got over the car.

Got hit on the helmet by a crow on the freeway some years ago, hurt me more than it did him.

Nothing to see here - move on.

Fly Fisher

Very uncanny to see this thread as I hit one about 3-4 mornings ago on my way home from nightshift, it was just sitting right on the middle of my lane and had its back to me. Going 100 kph, I certainly thought it would have flown or hopped out of the way but I cleaned it up with something underneath the cruiser. As soon as I hit it, I thought bugger me I bet that is rare, such a smart bird.

Has anyone ever seen a baby crow? I think they must be born full size!

Mace

Found this cow by the road on the way back from Bangor last weekend.  Danny had driven the same way 5 minutes before! Have kept it for evidence.

no crows for us but a few bird mishaps - One heading south from Broome a bird decided to fly head first into the Snorkel of the Prado - actually broke the grate part of the snorkel.  Another bird somehow ended up stuck inside the grill area of the car - no idea how it did it as it was a pita to get it out.

Never hit a crow in 45 years of driving.  They have perfect timing.

The goats along north west coastal highway south of Carnarvon are similar.  Hundreds of them feeding along the roadside edges but have only ever seen a couple dead.

Marschy

Hit a parrot fair square in the middle of my chest riding a motor bike on the New England Highway in the early 80's. Nearly knocked me off my bike. Feathers and sh!t all over my jacket, wasn't pretty.

Bullbars on the Prado took their first victim a couple of weeks back. Out in the wheatbelt and the wife decides she wants to drive (she normally avoids driving the Prado like the plague) and she almost immediately took out a galah. It managed to get itself wedged between the bars and headlight protector and clearly wasn't going to fall out of its own accord so yours truly had to extract it to spare the wife's sensibilities. ...and not, there are no pictures!
