We all buy things that we think we need , going to be useful, just what I have been looking for, that's handy etc but in the end has been a waste of money and either never used or used rarely.

Fly mesh walls for the 4wd awning.

Kids cheap stretcher beds for camping.

Any camping gear that requires effort to put together, such as large pantries or shower tents that need all the poles etc.

Hmm,

Aqua Cube hot water - used once, stored for 18 months then dead as a dodo.
Those mesh toaster thingos
Table (was replaced with a Drifta table which was way better)
Half the stuff in the kitchen drawers which we have hardly used
Electric blanket (SWMBO would violently disagree with this)

That's all for now, I'm sure to think of more.

That reminds me we have a thread like this one I think but what's wrong with the mesh toaster?

We have two and love them. :)  Those upright, 4 bread toasters are another thing that was a waste of money though.

12V soldering iron - Even struggles to melt plastic when I drop it on stuff (maybe a good thing??) .
Give me butane anyday ;D

Fridge stand. $30 for once used gadget. Could almost have bought a carton for that, and should have. The only place the stand is useful is on hard level ground, and how often is that a reality when camping?

My 25W 240V soldering iron works well via an inverter.

Two items:
1. A second hand  Thrane & Thrane Sat phone from Gumtree.   $100 and it doesn't work and the system does not have affordable satellite packages anyway.
2. Repacking the battery pack for the Thrane & Thrane with new NiCads, thinking that was why it didn't work; $99.
