HID upgrade kits
« on: September 04, 2013, 12:56:14 PM »
I'm trying to find out if anyone on this forum is dealing in hid upgrade kits for spotlights. If not does anyone know of anyone that does.

I have acquired an old set of Hella rally 2000 pencil beam lights, from the old man that's roughly 20 year old and used once. I would like to upgrade these to hids but I can't seem to find any information on them.

I would prefer not to have to purchase another set of lights if I can prevent it.

I have ordered a 30 inch flood light bar of McGirr and really looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Just recently purchased HID Driving Lights and in my initial research was told that upgrading is not that good as the lenses arnt for the HID Globes to get the correct benefit. Now I don't know how correct this is only what I was told.

It can can be the case when talking about headlights but rarely with driving lights.
If you tell us what globe type are in them i can tell you for sure if its possible.
The biggest hurdle is generally remote mounting the ballasts and ignitors. But patience will overcome this. For instance, you can upgrade all lightfore to hid from lightforce.

Yes, we also got a kit off Ebay, really good and as they come with the entire loom for 100 odd bucks, you can't loose. We had one Ballast that failed and ll I had to do was show me destroying it on a YouTube clip and they sent another.

I have just measured the clearance I have inside the light itself. I have roughly 62mm from the glass to the globe holder.

I have been browsing eBay and most sellers stock the 55watt ballast is there much difference between the 55w and 75w ballasts

Can anyone recommend a Ebay shop which they bought a HID upgrade off and were happy with the kit supplied. I had a quick search and there are lots of sellers and while I understand I am buying cheap copies, I don’t want dodgy cheap  if you know what I mean.

My plan is to HID my Lightforce Genius.

Performance Lighting was the brand I got for my XGT upgrade off EBay.
Great kit and everything fitted correctly with good instructions.
Not a good as a genuine Lightforce kit but 1/4 the price.
The globes took a bit to burn off the transport gas as I don't drive very much at night.
As usual no affiliation with them.
Regards
Angus.
