MEL starters

Looks like a few people leaving from MEL, including a few overseas guests from the South Island. I assume we'll travel in a group, this thread is to discuss route ideas.

Sounds good. You Mexicans can lead us overseas guests from the boat out of that big city ;D

But seriously we would be keen to do a few reasonably big days to get up there if everyone else likes that idea?

I was thinking the same, I won't have the family so prepared to put in some big days on the transport leg. Heaven forbid I suggest we stay in cabins on the way up to get more driving time in.

What are the choices?
I quite like the idea of Broken Hill, Tibooburra, Cameron Corner but that probably isn't the quickest.

If you go straight north from Tibooburra Google maps says it's 1487 kms

Straight north to Cunnamulla then turn left probably has the most bitumen 1811 kms

Or Mel-Mildura-Tibooburra then an easy day doing the corner and getting to Innamincka??

We went from Innamincka down the Bore Track to Cameron Corner and onto Broken Hill. Easy run and Bore track was like a big salt pan. You make a donation to the owners.

With this trip coming up quickly and me now needing to make up my mind, how many days would be needed to do Melbourne to Innaminka comfortably?
According to Google it's about 24hrs. Is this around the mark as it just seems a long time for the distance. I'm gathering a lot of it must be rough dirt roads maybe?
