We have a new star! Onya Agar!

We have to start thinking about what sort of a world we are going to leave for Keith Richards after we are all gone.

Swannie

Absolutely brilliant. At Perth airport and there is  a huge crowd around the TV cheering him and phil hughes on

Yes, he is playing very well. I guess when you go out with the score where it was in your 1st game, you probably don't have a lot of expectations, but this has certainly been an innings to watch and remember.

Hopefully he can get some wickets in the 2nd dig, and cement himself a spot in the series.

He can give some batting lessons to the top order  :D

Man, that was so good to watch. Loved every minute of it! That kid was playing shots that some of our top order are yet to master. Soooooooo close to a ton on debut :'(
If he backs it up in the second innings, I dont think he'll be batting at 11 for too much longer.
Even more impressive that it was on a pitch that had taken 14 wickets tbe day before and had just seen our batting lineup collapse.
Well done Ashton :cup:

A great debut Aston. Back it up with a couple of wickets and the debut with be more than perfect.

Seems as though the bowlers don't have as much trouble batting as the top order. Maybe they should pick 10 bowlers in the side!

Well batted Agar  :cup: and hope you can bowl these blokes out too (and the rest of the guys can hold catches).

Just hope he doesnt need to back up his batting heroics in the second innings at 11......means we would really be in the poo

Great stuff though. Refreshing to see a talented kid just enjoying his cricket. Parents in the stands too, must have been a very special day for them

Agree. So many times over the last few years where the tail-enders have well and truly out-batted the batsman. Happening all to often of late.

Trex_s4m1

just shows that the poms concentrated on the top batsman form and how to get them out but neglect the lower order bowler/batsmen..
good on him though, what a great start

It is embarrassing to realise that I had to read the whole thread to realise that cricket was being discussed.  Even in hospital I did not watch a television.  Oh we'll, back to the bush I go.

yep the form of the batsman picked to do the job for Australia has been a joke of late. Makes you wonder at times how the bowlers manage to regularly out perform them with the willow.... ???
To be a chance in this game we need to scuttle England quickly, we can't rely on our batters to chase a decent target going on recent form IMHO

Twas a pleasure to watch after all that crap...
Agar the orrible eh?? Well maybe to the Pomz. That first six was as smooth as silk of the bat.  :cup:

Compair Ashton to past number 11's (Glenn McGrath) I don't think he will be at 11 for long. If you didn't know any better you would have been forgiven for thinking he was in at 5 or 6. It was up there with some of the great innings to watch (entertainment wise).

Some of his stroke play was sublime, particularly his first six. The spinner had been a bit threatening, the ball was there to be hit and he hit it, and left the next one alone which was also thrown up.

It's amazing what can happen when a batsman(bowler?) can do when the iffy balls are left alone and the loose ones put away. Well done Agar and Phil Hughes and C'mon Aussie C'mon!

Monkeybucket

He will become a good all rounder. Coming in as an Authodox spinner. They"ll have to move him up the order if he continues to perform.

Was it the young Donnelly fella that came in a few years ago with a bang but seems to have faded?

Totally agree. Young and uncorrupted.
The tilt of the head when he was caught out said it all.

Just two more runs short........  How much for the record books scoring a hundred on debut, and at only 19.

Lets hope we dont ruin him by calling him a 'hero' and 'a superstar' and all that.

The above comment is 110% correct. Just a talented kid enjoying his cricket. Lessons can be learned from this.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

That got me out of my seat!! Also, the late cut he ran down to the boundary was just poetry in motion.
