Crikey, there are some unhappy campers over on Whirlpool! I have the Kogan sim, and a new phone, but I'm not sure I'll bother putting them together now. That way I'm only $5 out of pocket,

WP is full of geeks and freeloading downloaders who were instantly attracted to that 6GB/month on the Telstra network and naturally wanted to be blind to KM's 'reasonable use' terms. They are not representative of the mature adult population here so go figure.

Thats not quite correct. The "reasonable use" terms actually did not start until April 6 (at least in the email I received, I have had an account for 3 months).

Of course the descriptor "unlimited" is one that has some definition as far as the TIO and ACCC are concerned in telecommunications area. The current data restrictions are a very recent addition to the T&C at KM.

Many appear to have been dropped because they were a "business", even people who advised they hardly used the account at all.

A mature adult would actually read the full context of the discussions on whirlpool and realise that many people purchased a product with a product description and the product was not delivered.

The recent removal of speed throttling shows that the concerns of many users were in fact correct and the granting of an injunction against ISPone and an order to reinstate booted users vindicates their position.

I have a KM sim and it is going fine the only reason I have not ported away (because I feared being kicked off for some  unknown and obscure reason) is the injunction.

Even geeks and freeloading downloaders have a right in Australia to use a product they have purchased and , at least before April 6, use it in a way commensurate with the conditions of purchase.

I'll likely give Kogan mobile a run in my own good time when they've ironed out those teething problems and the rush has settled down.

I'm with Kogan. Recently my data was disconnected while I was still well under the data limit. Trying to talk to customer service proved to be nearly impossible. It took more than a week to get through to them.

Take them to the TIO. Every TIO complaint costs kogan money. Enough complaints to the TIO will see this fixed. And may see them fined by ACCC..

Over 400MB download a day or 60+SMS a day and your daily phone calls and times were....?

When I signed up there was no mention of daily limits, only the 6gb per month data limit. However, I make almost no calls and send about 5 texts maximum a week. I got the contract primarily for the data that I need to check a few emails everyday, and to use the google maps navigation on my iPhone - travelling no more than 250km per day outside of cities this should not be an issue. It seems in my case the data usage gets set back to 6gb once a month. They zero'd mine but didn't reset it back to 6gb. Mistakes happen, but the real problem was the inability to get through to them to get it rectified.

Fair enough fridayman but when I spotted on WP that proposed plan of a brand new kid on the block in KM coming and those rates and download allowance, blind freddy could see the geeks, kids and freeloaders would be all over it like a rash so don't be a pioneer with them prodigy meboy or else  :'(

KM were clearly caught with their pants down and they'll be struggling for a while to get it right, although they were always going to be a low service onliner at those rates.

As for ACCC fines, how on earth will fines help them get on top of things any sooner? We want entrepreneurial mobile supply not nanny state 20/20 hindsight all the time and there's always more experienced Boost mobile or Aldi to consider until KM get it right or die in the attempt.

Ruslan kogan is a big fella. He isn't curing cancer. He is buying himself another new Ferrari. * wiki says he has a BMW. But at net worth $150million. The car isn't an issue :)

He didn't design a leading new product and then discovered a whoops.

His team of highly paid lawyers entereted a contract with an upstream ISP provider reselling Telstra service who have come to disagreements over said contract.

Accc / consumer law stands. They won't do a thing. But this isn't limiting innovation or changing a market. It's taking advantage of a situation and trying to make money. On all sides.

Those highly paid lawyers once again will be the only ones who end up profiting from this. Like any other contractual breach or disagreement that ends in the courts!!

You get what you pay for! :)

If we want better networks. Maybe mr packer jnr and me rich can restart their onetel plans. That worked well for them the first time. :)

Cost of business. This 700mhz low band 4g rural spectrum auction that starts 23rs April. The government want $2 billion from the operators. For a piece of paper. Each tower costs $300k to build year one. It's not a charity :))

Let alone the not in my backyard. Kinder. Kangaroo paddock. Neighbourhood. Beachfront. Cave. People. One objection and it takes 6 months of arbitration. On top of the typical 18+ month delivery timeframe.

My phone drops out but my coverage is bad and I don't want a tower.. Because I don't trust the world health organisation and my tin foil hat is a bit tight.

Rather simplistic for most households with total mobile and fixed internet spend plus the hardware/software upgrade merry go round. Not crying poverty, just priorities with comms spend among all the other hungry mouths to feed, not least keeping the 3 tiers of Gummint in the manner to which the've become accustomed  :'(

My son just got one today, we gave him the KM yearly plan for his last birthday in March so we will try the Aldi for now.

is it just me or is the term "unlimited" fairly unequivocal in it's meaning "without limit or end; on going"? thought that was the point? Surely placing a "limit" makes it no longer an "unlimited" plan and thus using the term "unlimited" would be false advertising? SO if it has limits, how can it be advertised as unlimited? Legally that is........

Well I think most of us understood 'unlimited' meant fairly generous within the context of personal use and reasonable use terms clearly spelled out by both Kogan and Aldi but the lawyers and pedants among us have clearly driven Boost Mobile to call their offer 'Boost UNLTD' to get around the ACCC nosewipers and nanny staters who think we're all children in need of some more mummying. Sweet Jesus the Kimberley is now full of warning signs every time there's the remotest possibility of we poor BBers coming to grief with Mother Nature  ???

Funnily enough switching the missus to KM for the trip I was actually paying more than the $20/month on Voda Infinite for her and daughter. That's because son and I were paying $45/m each on Voda Infinite for biz 9we haven't got time for SMS or data during the day) when Voda rep approached me about anymore family phones a couple of years ago when Voda were under the pump. He said he'd beat their current provider (TPG for $20 for $300 worth of calls a month) and true to his word they went on Voda Infinite for $20 each. The last of the big spenders upping the missus to KM for $299 for 12months worth as you can tell ;D

This is a recent Comms Day pdf. It's a regular email that is sent out to those in the IT industry (where I work) or to anyone that signs up for it (I think it's a premium service?).
It has some interesting information relating to Kogan Mobile :)

I was with Kogan. Was good while it lasted and no issues. Made the simple switch to BOOST and the only downside is 3G of data instead of 6G. But BOOST has better coverage as they us the full telstra nextG network. Why would anyone pay telstra $100 a month for the same deal (unlimited calls and text, 3G of data) and the same coverage. And BOOST is actually owned by telstra, go figure.
