I've recently got back into riding again and am looking to replace the tyres on my hardtail MTB (26" wheels). I am looking for recommendations on what people consider to be a good all-round tyre for general trail riding. Looking to spend about $50-$60 per tyre.

For a bespoke bike, the steel version is surprisingly affordable when compared to some of the mass produced bikes

more of a noob question...

i have a few of the ferrules for the end of my brake cables to replace...

what's the best way to crimp them on?  i don't really want to buy a special tool (if there is one)?

I just use the end of needle nose pliers.

His full suspension Norco is great on the trails but a little heavy and big for family rides/bike paths/rail trails etc. I'd been looking for a drop bar gravel for him when by chance I found this Rocky Mountain Fusion 40 in XS discounted at Pushys. It's a great spec for the price and perfect for the type of riding it will get used for.

As the chain has been on my bike for 9770 kms and the cassette for 18000 kms I thought it was time to replace  them.
However that wasn't the issue, it is the big chainring which has been on it for 18000 kms as well.
Time for a new 48T.

It is hard going on 34T and still averaging 28kph.

I was thinking Harcourt or maybe Lysterfield if more people can attend. I can lead at Harcourt, however I'd need somebody to lead at Lysterfield as I don't know it well enough to lead.

I tend to get 5000-8000 from a chain, 15000-17000 from a cassette, and 17000-20000 from front rings...

That's on the road, the MTB did about 35000 on the first chain, and still on original cassette and rings at around 80000 clicks

The difference makes no sense to me, because the MTB was my commuter for 4 years

Shimano Di2 on a carbon disc bike, tempting but expensive.
Why Di2 for me?
Well, I can't use my right hand/arm so all controls are on the left side of my handle bar.
For the last 5 years I ride an Apollo Transfer 40, kind of hybrid/MTB.
The rear shifting is done by a SRAM grip shifter, front with the normal two lever shifter. Both on the left.
The rear and the front disc brakes are controlled by 2 separate levers, also on the left.
So it s very cluttered on the left while the right side is empty.

That's where Di2 might come in.
Apparently it is customisable so you can program what ever each shifter needs to do.
However the cheapest I saw (and liked) is still $4,000: Merida Reacto 7000-E

I've not used Di2 but I'd go SRAM AXS, if you need it today, as it is wireless or wait for Shimano to release a wireless version.

For your use case, yes you can program the shifter to do whatever you want so it would work.

For your use case, yes you can program the shifter to do whatever you want so it would work.

The only caveat with AXS is that you can't program one lever to do both derallieurs due to the switch mech.  What you'd need to do when you programmed it would be to set the front mech to synchronous shifting, so when you shift the rear mech the AXS system shifts the front for you automatically.

Di2 can be configured the same way, but you can't have manual control over both the front and rear mech from one lever in either system.

You could install a hill climb switch on di2 or a blip on AXS to achieve the outcome you're looking for though
