House hit by lightning 1.24 hrs ago,all good with no damage. It was striking every 10-15secs and decided to pull the plug out of every outlet. The buzzing electric sound for about 2secs with blinding light and sound that I'm surprised i have any windowes left was intense to say the least. The smell in the air immediately after was interesting, normal fire smell combined with electric fire and something else which i cant put my finger on. Anyone who lives in the Cheltenham (Melb) area would confirm the intensity. I used to live in Queensland and this 1 compares to the tropical storms up there.

I was on the road to Kerang today to swap out batteries in a failing UPS and the display mother nature was putting on was great slowed the trip down a couple of times with the intensity of the rain but the lightning forks were great

Hail destroys crops
CHRIS MCLENNAN
29 Sep, 2011 04:00 AM

FRUIT trees were shredded, vegetable crops destroyed, caravans were dented and streets flooded during a day of storm mayhem across Sunraysia yesterday.
Hail storms caused the most damage as the thunderstorms carved a narrow swathe of destruction throughout the afternoon.

Colignan was first and perhaps worst hit early yesterday afternoon when large hail stones pounded a kilometre-wide stretch of the district over a distance of many kilometres along the storm’s path.

Hail covered lawns like snow, to the joy of holidaying children in Red Cliffs while flash floods caused some traffic problems in Ouyen after 11mm fell in as many minutes during the afternoon.

Cereal farmers across the Millewa are waiting to assessing the damage but early reports suggest the violence of the storms was contained to narrow strips.
