I have used BFG ATs for over 10 years, and think they're fantastic! I was really surprised to read in 4wd Action that they came only 3rd or 4th in a comparo of AT tyres, with the Pirelli Scorpions 1st I think.
that there is a joke in itself! We had them in the Ex-mistakes Pathfinder, and they are nothing close to an AT, trillionteen % closer to a HT

After running BFG's in both A/Ts and Muds on previous vehicles, I decided I wanted an agressive A/T somewhat more than the BFG A/T but not a full muddy.

With the common Cooper issues and also not being a mainstream follower I finally came up with some ProComp Extreme A/T's in 265/75 R16 for the Rodeo, so far they have exceeded all expectations with remarkably good performance in the sloppy stuff even out driving a double locked Hilux at LCMP, the wet grip on tarmac is more than I care to push the car and their durability offroad so far is excellent although they havent been out on the gibbers yet. I also got them for a good price and now with 6 (2 spares) they shouldn't need replacing any time soon :cup:

KM2s for me as well, in 235/85/16, 2nd set of these, good grip offroad and very quiet for a mud tyre, only downfall, they don't wear well, I think I got about 45,000ks from the last set.

i have been running the Terra Tracs for the last 2yrs or so, have taken them up the Gibb, Cape Leveque Bungle Bungles as well as heaps of local tracks in both WA and now here in Qld, they have been a great tyre, and now have about 50000k on them apart from a few chips etc from the terrain we have been thru on them they have been a fantastic tyre.

I have been looking at the Trail Digger from Hercules (who make the Terra Trac) and discovered that now all the herc tyres have been bought out by coopers and are now made at the coopers factory in the good old USA, so now i am on the look out for a new tyre,

General Grabber's have a very good rep over in the US - seems they're a tyre of choice over there. I didn't know we had them in Aus? Much the same, but to a slightly lesser extent for the Terra Trac's - seems they're very popular in the land of the free as well.

I think both of you (hempo and amaso57) will be very happy with your choices.

Thanks!
Matto :)

cheers Matto, had them balanced and Tyrepower fella said he doesn't sell many because they are dearer than the Coopers etc.  Odd thing with them - 3 were marked Made in USA and two were Made in Mexico.  Picked them up on 16x7 black dynamic rims.

I run Goodyear MTR's 285/75/16

I buy em cause I can get 4 for $1000 with the buy 3 get 1 free deal that comes around every so often. and with the goodyear warranty when I stuff one I only pay a % of the new tyre depending on how much tread is left.

They are a softer compond IMHO and do get ripped up on rocky ground ,but for corro work and mud I love em.

I would try the KM2 but only if they offer a tyre protection plan.

Well I've had a gos run with the MT MTZ over the last 4 years but with a lot of the big tracks done I like the look of the MT ATZ 4 rib for my next tyres which will need to be real soon as after the 10,000K for our Cape Trip just completed there is not a whole lot left of them  :D

BFG AT's  265/75 R16 on Chappy the Disco.

Wrangler RT/S 265/75 R16 on the CUB and

Dunlop Grandtreks 205/70 R15 and Hankook r06's in 205/70 R15 on the mighty Sporty.  :cup:

Why because thats what they came with when purchased apart from the Sporty which had to have two tyres replaced for Rego a couple of years ago.
Want 285 muddies for the Disco (probably in a KM2)

Cub cant go any biger than the 265's and the tyres will last a long time.

Want an aggresive all terrain for the Sporty either in 215 75 or 235 75 when it is time to upgrade.

Cheers, Chris

Sumitomo Serengeti SL840 33x12.5x15 - on 3rd set over 8 years average 40,000 km per set. Not much in mileage compared to others but it's the price I pay for rubber to do all I want it to do and more.

Running Maxxis 761's 265/65/17 on the R51 Pathfinder and they seem like a good tyre.  Helps when you actually get a good wheel alignment.  Went looking for BFG's but decided that it was easier to find a needle in a haystack.

I have been running BFG ATs (285/75 16) for ten years as well and love them.  I don't do enough mud work to justify MT's and as a daily driver the AT's perform well in the wet around town for the family when we are not able to be off camping.

BFG certainly seem to get a lot of business from us.

Another set of KM2s here, 285/70R17s on the Patrol and the trailer.

Supply is indeed a problem, especially if you damage one or two while out and about. In a pinch you can put any other tyre in the appropriate size on, but certainly not ideal. The good thing is that the KM2s seem to be pretty tough.

I got all eight of mine from the US, even at the latest exchange rate you certainly won't pay more than local even with shipping (just got to watch the $1000k duty threshold), and at least you can have them a week from now rather than six months from now.

The KM2s replaced STTs. I liked the STTs, I love the KM2s. I might try Kumho KL71s next.
