Hughendon - Winton - Barcaldine -Emarald Roads
« on: June 24, 2011, 02:02:19 PM »
Hi Everyone,
We are getting close to departure time for our yearly trip. Decided to stay closer to home as Mother in Law is not well so like to be only 2-3 days drive away from home (Cairns) going to Longreach instead of Menindee. (Never mind can catch that up another time). Has anyone out there done the roads I am asking about & if so what are they like, thinking of doing a loop and maybe come home through Saphire & Rubyvale if they are accessable. Haven't been there for years but have been told that the road is now sealed from Rubyvale through to Capella but with the floods this year don't know what they would be like. Looking forward to hearing from any of you.
Cheers Sue.

Sue,
I did a trip for work a couple of weeks ago in a triton dual cab. We went through Emerald to Clermont then back through Rubyvale to Longreach then down to Jundah and back to Blackall and the roads were really good. We passed a lot of vans and camper trailers except on the Jundah to Blackall road where we did not see a car for the whole trip.
Hope this helps
Mick
