Hello all.   we are new the this Aussie style of camping and are keen to purchase a camper trailer but are a bit confused due to the many different offerings on the market.

We want to do off road style camping around the coastal areas of QLD initially ( dont want to cross the Simpson Desert just yet ) so would appreciate any advise on what to look for. what to stay away from, any recommendations on makes etc. We want to keep the cost down initially to determine if this is what we really want then may look at spending the big bucks once we know it is for us.

Cheers and happy camping

Welcome to myswag kiwial! As you're in QLD, you can't go wrong with a Trackabout http://trackabout.com.au/

Welcome to MySwag, the decision is hard due to the many trailers available, I would be looking at the secondhand market for a start as there are some good bargains already set up. Check out the classifieds on the forum.

I agree....pre loved is a great way to start off as there's often extras included in the package.  And the CT has usually been tried and tested with any of the initial bugs already sorted for you.

Gday kiwial,Weve just been through the search process and looked at loads of different brands, including lifestyle, johnos, explorer, jimboomba, trackabout and camel. We ended up with a camel (built in QLD) because it felt right for us, the build quality and service and deal we got at the newcastle show was a hard to beat  .You couldnt really go too far wrong with any of them though. There are some good quality 2nd hand ones around too.
