Well the pink ball is here to stay.

Two or three tests next year?

They won't change MEL or SYD, BNE doesn't have daylight savings and PER would be too late due to the time difference. I'd say they'll make the ADL test day/night and leave the others alone.

Plus I don't think the pink ball held together on any of the other wickets. Even though the game was over in 3 days it was a better game to watch than the run feast tests.

Bit harsh on the Kiwi's though, even the pommy umpires don't like them! Perhaps India are right they should not have DRS and then it would have not been a problem at all.

Well done boys, those last couple of overs were nail biters.

Lots said about the DRS decision, remember the on field umpire gave it not out. Before DRS it would still have been not out...

That is my understanding he was given Not out by the on field umpire, the Kiwis contested the call and it went to the third umpire.  While there was a spot on the hot spot, there was nothing on the mics to indicate contact with bat and ball, for the third umpire under the current rulings there was inconclusive evidence to overrule the on field umpire, which as I say is my understanding of how it works, it is part of cricket, just like a pink ball and a day/night test.  Given the circumstances the third umpire called it correctly.
Cheers

what did they think it was - a butterfly hitting the bat?

OK, there appears to have been an incorrect decision, maybe, get over it!   >:(   And not back to the old underarm incident.  I am sick of hearing about it again and again.  Every sport has had and will have so called bad decisions.  The more we have smart technology and more umpires the more we will witness bad decisions.   Every time we (us Australians) play NZ at something we hear the same old......   GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON......  >:D    Kevin

agree... and the more and more camera angles etc the worse it will get...
Look at ref's in NRL - they are scared to make decisions anymore without 'referring it' as the commentary team will view it 50000 times even at 500 frames a seconds.
People laughed at 12th mans "Box Cam" joke - just wait... it will happen cause Ch 9 want it to happen

This is one area where technology has failed miserably IMWO.

Its a pity this test will be remembered for this. It was actually a really good game for a change.

Some good ones here

His response joins the list of memorable comebacks to sledges in world cricket. Here's our top 10:

1. Ian Botham (England) and Rod Marsh (Australia)
Marsh: "So how's your wife and my kids?"
Botham: "The wife is fine but the kids are retarded."

2. Eddo Brandes (Zimbabwe) and Glenn McGrath (Australia)
McGrath: "Why are you so fat?"
Brandes: "Because every time I sleep with your wife, she gives me a biscuit."

3. James Ormond (England) and Mark Waugh (Australia)
Waugh: "Mate, what are you doing out here? There's no way you're good enough to play for England."
Ormond: "Maybe not, but at least I'm the best player in my family."

4. Merv Hughes (Australia) and Javed Miandad (Pakistan)
Miandad: "Merv you are a big, fat bus conductor."
Hughes (after dismissing Miandad): "Tickets please."

5. Merv Hughes (Australia) and Viv Richards (West Indies)
Richards: "Don't you be staring at me, man. This is my island, my culture. And in my culture we just bowl."
Hughes: "In my culture we just say, 'F*** off.'"

6. Steve Waugh (Australia) and Jamie Siddons (Australia)
In a Sheffield Shield match while Waugh was taking a long time to take guard
Siddons: "For f***'s sake, mate, it's not a f***ing Test match!"
Waugh: "Of course it's not ... You're here."

7. Viv Richards (West Indies) and Greg Thomas (England)
In an English county match after Richards played and missed a few times
Thomas: "It's red, it's round. Now f***ing hit it!"
Richards (after hitting a six): "You know what it looks like, now go and get it."

8. Fred Trueman (England) and an unidentified young batsman
After Trueman dismissed the batsman
Batsman: "That was a very good ball, Fred."
Trueman: "Aye, and it was wasted on you."

9. Daryll Cullinan (South Africa) and Shane Warne (Australia)
Warne: "I've been waiting two years for another chance at you."
Cullinan: "Looks like you spent it eating."

10. Mike Atherton (England) and Ian Healy (Australia)
Healy called for Atherton to walk after catching an apparent edge
Healy: "You're a f***ing cheat!"
Atherton: "When in Rome, dear boy."

surely nobody is taking this game serious??

It should be over today.. declare overnight and that's the end of it. but ACB would kill them if they declared!

Sad that Windies cricket has slipped as far as it has. Lets hope they put up a fight with the bat.

Windies wont even make Marshes score ...

I guess 110 and 87 for their 2 innings.

Why AU didn't declare overnight? At least make *SOME* form of competition out of it... And no records from this innings should stand.. its akin to scoring 200 against the Netherlands

I was born in 79 so no I don't remember! I do remember watching Ambrose bowl at the MCG though so yes I do agree.

I watched many games at SCG on the hill in them days on 'excursions' with our teams when I was playin back then..

Some of the best cricket ever was played back then. Great to watch talented batsmen and bowlers from 2 sides....  Big difference from what is on display.

I'd still much rather a nail biting finish.

Do they get paid as much for 1 day as 5 - the windies?
Why would you try or put in any effort....

I pity anyone with tickets to day 3 - or any days for that matter... on the boxing day test.

How good will boxing day test be?
Quote
Captain Jason Holder bowled a bouncer to Jake Hancock, who was on 22, which the opening batsman hooked straight to fine leg. Or at least, to exactly where fine leg Jerome Taylor should have been standing, instead of leaning on the fence outside the rope with his back to the game.

Hancock reported that Taylor's teammates – who had alerted him to the incoming missile with frantic screams as it flew from bat to boundary – had "a little chuckle" and got on with things. "They sort of just brushed it off really and kept going. They didn't seem too fazed by it."

He professed admiration for both the commitment and spirit shown by the beleaguered opposition, under Holder's enthusiastic leadership. After Travis Dean popped a Kemar Roach lifter to point in the fourth over, removing one of only two Victorians with first class experience, the locals made largely untroubled progress. Yet Hancock insisted they were made to toil hard for their runs.

"They continued to challenge me for the whole game," said the 24-year-old, who has made five centuries this summer, including two for Victoria's second XI, and was disappointed the rain halted his pursuit of a sixth. "They might have missed that chance there. But the whole time I batted, they tested me."
