The tactics from here will be interesting. Will Australia close up shop and play for a draw?

Indeed, especially with only 9 batters. Playing for a draw is un-Australian :)

Would have been nice to see ross taylors record for a kiwi on aussie turf and 4th highest score against aussie ever shown even 1/4the respect smiths centuary got....pretty ordinary considering what a fantastic test its shaping up to be

There was applause for him, may not have stopped the world turning but I seen Aussie players clapping him off.....I think you will find that he will receive plenty of handshakes from the Aussie players in the sheds after stumps....thats pretty much how they do it here...

Don't listen to that 2 bob idiot commentator, Dirk what ever his name was, he was stirring Shit....

I hope so.
It was an achievement for cricket.
Everytime someone sets the bar higher a game gets better.
Hes only 10 runs off bradmans best on aussie soil.... thats something in its self.
My grandfather was born in bendigo...one of his less endearing qualities was constantly reminding me how good bradman was lol

Seems as though Dirk Nannes was more offended than Ross Taylor.

Given Taylor's reaction to getting out I doubt he wanted to hang around on the field to wait for some hand shakes. I think at some point he will be proud of his achievement but I think he would be disappointed at the time and just wanted to get off the ground.

Agreed, Dirk has made many disparaging comments about Steve Smith and his leadership/captaincy during both tests. I suggest Dirk might be the one with the problem/grudge and is using his new found media duties to air them in public..

Agree... It wasn't like he'd made a quick fire 50 just with lucky swings at the ball.

Back in the dark ages when I played, even in U10's, rep comps and into seniors our captain would call out "<other team name> Captain", and we clapped him when he came in to bat, applauded 50/100's and I had no issue with shaking the blokes hand when he scored 50 etc, even when I was bowling. Something I made sure the U10-14's I coached did too. I'm surprised Steve Smith didn't do it at least being a batsman..

Well done to Mitch, going out at his home ground, on his terms. Most successful AU bowler behind Lillee, McGrath and Warne is a pretty good effort.

Leaves a big gap in the team for an attacking bowler that can bowl all day, unlike Starc who needs to be rested.

Yes my thoughts exactly and also leaves not many senior bowling options a lot of young bowlers in the side now and lots who have had niggly injuries. Good luck Mitch in whatever life brings after cricket a career you should be proud of.

Interesting perspective from Stu, who has actually played at test level...

Former Aussie quick Stuart Clarke says fellow fast-bowler Dirk Nannes should apologise to Steve Smith and the Australian cricket team.

Nannes yesterday accused the Aussies of "horrendous sportsmanship" for failing to shake hands and congratulate Kiwi Ross Taylor for his record-breaking 290-run innings on day four.

However, Clark believes the Australians would have congratulated Taylor after the day's play or before the start of play on day five, rather than immediately after New Zealand's innings.

He said Nannes was completely out of line.

"I think Dirk's gone too far and potentially should apologise," Clark told Sky Sports Radio.

"I don't think that's correct at all.

"Dirk's never played Test cricket so it's a big statement to make. He's obviously watching from afar and making a comment from what he's seeing.

"I tell you what, if he wants to ruffle some feathers and get some guys off-side I'd suggest this is the right way to do it because I think the Australians would be filthy on a comment like that.

"I think his comments are a big deal because they are incorrect."

Sportsmanship... You don't have to like your opposition, but you should show respect.

I was just thinking, I'm not a fan of Burns at bat pad as he doesn't seem to anticipate the catch, and then he takes the Guptill catch

Crisis averted, imagine Dirk Nannes's reaction if Johnson had have left the ground without shaking hands with the Kiwi's!!

Now who is going to bounce all these poms?? Glad Johnson proved me wrong that summer. Great finish to an up and down career.

Ahhh I get it now. Its Taylor's fault because he didn't come back out. He should have done a Johnson and come back out and give them a chance.
