Hi, i'm a mother of five (six really including hubby) and we recently brought our first off road camper. Test drove it about 6 weeks ago and i swore after that weekend i was selling it. But instead i weather proofed it again and took it out last week. Stood up nicely to the small amount of rain we had. Apart from the dreadful heat, the trip went well. I joined this forum for advice and to meet other people with the same interest. Also to hopefully get many useful tips and tricks.

Gunna Do

Welcome to Myswag.   A mother to five..........wow that deserves a medal.  :cup:

Was it the waterproofing which took the shine off the first trip?  And if so, had you water proofed it prior to the trip?

Good on you for getting out and about with your family.   :cup:

Hi Gunna Do. Yes did the seasoning and such. I also did all the seams just for extra measure, but it didn't do much. And yes when we saw the large pools of water inside the shine really went south. But there were other issues on top of the leaks as well. But i sucked it up and we are slowly fixing the issues to bring it up to a better and more functional state.

Thank you Symon, look forward to getting to know some.

G'day & Welcome Goob.

A few teething problems, nothing a good night around the fire won't erase. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, great place here.

I think i am dreading our first trip out too.  Weather proofed the CT at least three times with a soaking from the hose and it rained on it whilst set up in the yard, no leaks that i could see but never know till out camping.  That's when you also find out how well it works, what you have forgotten to take and really need NOW and maybe why you shouldn't have bothered in the first place.

Great that you perservered, am sure we will do the same.

Hear you re: the problems.
We never seen ours setup or packed away, just given verbal instructions  :(
We've done a couple of 'close to home' weekend trips to begin with. My missus had some doubts - just quietly, so did I, but don't tell her  ;D
Just take your time, & before you know it, you'll be breaking your neck to get away :)
Get the kids involved with style besides just wanting to run off & play/swim/catch snakes etc. Takes the load off you & hubby & helps them to feel responsible.
Read a post from another member here who has his/her kids set tasks, they love it :)

Thanks guys. I have a six year old PRINCESS who does absolutely nothing around the house. But the two trips we have had out, she has taken it up on herself to be the one who puts together the food cupboard and arrange every thing into it. Even unpacks cooking equipment etc. She is a different kid. Hence why i wanna going camping next week because i have the whole week off, but unless it dries out pretty quick i wont be going :-[

Hi Goob & welcome to Myswag, thats half the fun working out a routine or trying to as you setup. About 3 cans does it for me.

Welcome to the forum.

Just do it! If you put it off you never get going and if you never get going you never get it down to a fine art. We can decide on Thursday to head off on Friday and be gone with a few clothes, a bit of food, alcohol and accessories (sirf boards or bikes or cricket set).

I have a 7 yr old prince. He rarely helps but he'll go investigate to wood pile on his bike when we arrive and sit in the car with his DSI when we're packing up and stay out of our way! My 13 old almost gets us onsite and off by herself so I am really just the driver! We are off in a couple of weeks for a few sleeps ...

Like I said, just do it!

J
