Hi everyone from the UK.
First post for me, and I've a lot to learn.
Question: Who makes the best off-road camper and why?
Thanks,

John

Welcome to the Forum, you have opened a can of works there. Everyone has their own opinion due to there needs and wants and size of the wallet.

G'day & Welcome John.

Tell us a bit more about yourself and your interest in CTs and we'll be better able to answer the question you posed.

In 'peri actic' regions I'd suggest insulated walls and snow flaps!

Enjoy the white christmas.  (Mind you, we had snow in the mountains here this week as well!)

G'day John and welcome to Myswag.

Good question that should bring 'Toad' out of his Hall. ;D ;D

PS ('Toad' owns an AORC hardfloor camper that was voted best Off road camper 2010 by Campertrailer Aust magazine).

As far as I'm aware only Pioneer and Bushwakka trailers are imported into the UK, though I would import from another manufacturer if I was persuaded.

My towing vehicle is a Land Rover Defender 130.

Plan is to hit every country in Europe plus North Africa in Year 1 plus possiblyand then Overland to Cape Town in Year 2.

Obviously a great proportion will be tarmac initially, but a fair few miles will be off-road in mountain regions and the forests of Scandinavia.

It's not the size of the wallet that matters, but the functionality of the trailer for three people -- myself, wife and son.

Welcome to Myswag & G'day from Down Under  . When you ask about CTs it comes to a personal thing , what works for me wont be for you . Do the reasearch on what works then make a decision .
If you need feed back then ask , the only silly question is the one not asked  .

Hello.  I agree. Everyone's needs are so different. When travelling you come across so many different campers and everyone has a different opinion.  I find it is great to be able to look at different set ups and talk to the owners.  Your proposed trip sounds absolutely fantastic.  ;D   Kevin

HI Welcome to the forum probably a silly question but how big is the demand for camper trailers in the UK considering the weather and if you find one you like on here you like are you going to import it?TINKERA.

Welcome John ...

The A to the Q you've posed is ... An Aussie Swag.  No bias here mate!   ;D  We love ours ... it's our Bed on Wheels away from home!  We love it because it's 4WD drive like our 4WD, it's: fully self contained, easy to erect, looks great, come from a family company who's service is FANTASTIC, versatile, functional, great to look at, great to live out of ... someone stop me ...  ;D

Hi John

Don't wish to throw the dampeners on your plans but if you are thinking of importing just check the legality of using our brakes over in Europe, I don't think either the electric brakes we use or the basic override units are legal. Changing brakes could be an issue as the European ones tend to be auto reversing overrun which require a completely different drawbar configuration. Have a look at any that are being imported to the UK and see what they are doing. Also you will need to check compliance of other features of the trailer - lighting, gas/electric etc.

Would be interested in your findings if you want to PM me

cheers

Not to talk you out if a camper, but if you're thinking of Africa you might consider a rooftop tent.

The drop bears and hoop snakes here in Aus don't seem to cause an issue with a CT, but the large pussy cats in Africa might be more persistent.  ;D

Another Aussie, Ron Moon, took an extensive tour across Europe and Africa, you could probably look up some of his adventures, tips etc.
