Tropical Cyclone Oma expected to whip up king tides

Funny, I always thought that the king tides were astronomical, not weather related ??? >:D

Quote
"King tide" is a colloquial term for an especially high spring tide, such as a perigean spring tide. "King tide" is not a scientific term, nor is it used in a scientific context. The use of the term "king tide" originated in Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific nations to refer to an especially high tide that occurs only a few times per year. The term has now come to be used in North America as well,[1] particularly in low-lying South Florida, where they cause sunny day tidal flooding.

Today - this morning - right now is the King tide for QLD. Hervey bay is getting a 4.32M tide today. On the local's facebook page there is a pic of the Kingfisher barge at the River Heads ramp. If any of you have ever been to Fraser that you'll understand when I say the barge is sitting as high as the carpark, the concrete ramp is completely submerged, and the barge ramp is set slightly downhill to the road to load vehicles. West beach camps at Coongul, Awinya, Wooralie will be getting wet and back beach camps with this swell and tide will no doubt be on the news tonight with a few getting washed away.
IF the low pressure, rain and storm surge was all aligned with today there would have been major trouble all along the East coast but the tides drop again from today - still pretty big though.

Apparently, more models are coming into line with it hitting the coast, but maybe just north of Fraser.

Weatherzone forum saying it's as good as dead, Cat 1 by morning they are saying and it's struggling to intensify due to the size of it's eye and no evidence of dry air entertainment (track map says Cat 2 still though).....will see how much rain it brings though,  hope some places that need it get a drink

We'll get rain for sure and a bit of wind.

By the time it hits the coast, it won't be much bigger than a willy-willy by the current "modelling".

All the news channels are beside themselves, just itching for the first hit of a problem.

Out here, we're down for 3/4 of 5/8ths of fukk all so far.

Mal, if you think it was dry last time you were here, you should see it now.

Tanks only....

28,000 or 30,000 litre underground unit, the main unit that feeds the house.
10,000 gal tank for drinking water washing cars and stuff, but I can draw from it for the house by switching some valves.
1,500 emergency tank, so if ya run everything out over a long week-end, you still have some backup until the water truck gets there.

All run on a separate pump, so if a pump Shits itself, we're still good to go.

Tons of water here at the moment, its just the yard is screwed.
Front dam (little bloke) dead dry.
Back dam, about 2 feet of water in it.

The 50 ducks and 4 turtles that live there will be fighting it out soon for the last drops.

I'm getting sparks off the tyres on the cars as I drive over the grass.

Poor ol farmers, are running irrigation every day.... the sun steals most of it.

Reading Weatherzone just now, don’t get your hopes up for to much rain...they reckon cyclone won’t come as close as first thought it might and might not even return next week now.

Yeah, the models seem to have it turning north further out so bugger all rain except for the coast, still plenty of uncertainty though so likely to change again.
