Hey, Gandalf, now that you're back on deck (assuming that you make it through the weekend!
) - any updates on the program
thanks Fizzie, There’s been 4 individual lives saved by Defibs I’ve put into local businesses and trained the teams across Aus. I’ll try and upload the news article next. We’ve been able to get several hundred Defibs out into communities through real estate agents, pharmacies, opticians, gyms & tradies.. It’s also been great to have the Yellow Wiggle out spruiking about his incident as it all raises awareness. In addition retail prices of the medical grade Defibs have come down by approx $500 and there’s a new TGA approved single use light weight defib now on the market that retails for approx $400 but this unit has a 12month battery shelf life and needs to be replaced annually. If you do the comparison on the single use unit & the medical grade Heartsine units over an 8 year period, which is the life of the medical grade unit, the cost is pretty much the same, but I am thinking about buying the single use unit for hiking as much lighter.
The SA Gov is currently considering legislation to have Defibs in all commercial businesses over a certain size and lots of Caravan Parks have been able to access Gov/Council funding to install one in their office or Rec area.
