Sorry if there is a current thread, I did search.
Being bloody wet over the last couple of weeks, and unable to work(flooded roads, local ferry out of operation due to high river levels), I spent a bit of time in the shed, even with young Jack.
We've built shelves, organising stuff, he's bought a heap of tools(he's nearly finished his Fitters & Turners apprenticeship), 3 in one might, tig, welder.
Today on my Rodeo work ute, I installed a 100W solar panel, controller, second battery, 12v to 18v Makita charger and Sorted the ladder racks.
I also fitted to Fysh's 2018 MUX a bonnet protector & window weather sheilds.
Also ordered a plug & play replacement upgrade car radio/reverse camera/Bluetooth, which has Android carplay.
Been a busy day.
Cheers

His apprenticeship papers say Turner.

Should see the toys, I mean tools he brings home

I was thinking of buying a kit shed for the New Age Road Owl & my 4.8m work trailer.
A good mate of Jack's, his dad owns a fabrication business, we will be now building a 10x7 skillion shed off the side of the house.
All council approved, of cause.

Definitely. One must go double story as a minimum. How else is one gonna get a hoist in, let alone a machine shop and a fab shop

Today in my shed , well at least in the office in the corner of the shed, I pulled all the wet floor vinyl up and now have a dehumidifier running to dry things out after springing a leak during Cyclone Alf and the rain that we have had in the following weeks.
Have already fixed the leak that emanated from water tracking in via the A/C service pipes where they past through the wall.
Tomorrow will be a job to repair/replace the MDF wall sheets that have grown as a result of acting as a sponge. A bit of painting and then put the vinyl back down. Hopefully sorted by Sunday evening.
Refitted the MSA seat covers, after 10 years service i gave them a wash in the machine

Does outside of the house count ???
Late Saturday arvo I took some stuff out to the bin & there was a wet patch on the path near the front tap. Thought the tap couldn't have been turned off properly, so the hose has dribbled, gave the tap handle a twist & didn't think any more about it.
Sunday arvo, Leafz comes rushing in after doing the same thing, to say there's water running out of the wall! Have a look & yep, there's water apparently coming out of the base of the tap, where it joins the actual pipe inside the brick wall, then running down the wall & dribbling out the weep holes! :o Not hard though - only ~1l/5 minutes. Turned the water off at the meter to stop it as we don't know what it's doing down inside the wall ??? (Van water tanks were still full from Alfred though, so we've got lots available 8))
Got on to our usual plumber first thing Monday morning but he's in Coffs atm, cleaning out a house after his Dad died a little while ago :'( He'll be back up on Wednesday & will come out then, but also said that that small an amount wouldn't be enough to do any damage over the next few days :-\
Decided that we'd take a brick out from around the the tap, as he'd need to get in there anyway, & found the problem! #1
But having a closer look, it shows a very interesting example of work from ~44 years ago! #2
Now, I'm not a plumber, but I don't think copper pipe is supposed to be kinked like that! :o ::) :-X Probably explains why we've never had decent water pressure in that tap, from the day we moved in here! >:(
@Fizzie, it looks like 101 Qld plumbing, with 1/2" garden taps their specialty. The plumber should have used a 15BP (back plate) brass fitting screwed to the frame and a brass long thread through the brick wall.
Doing an apprenticeship in NSW Public Works 40 plus years ago we learnt to ensure any external tap was vandal proof and your example was certainly not.
Tradies finished building a new roof for the van: http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=58874.msg1068915#msg1068915 (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=58874.msg1068915#msg1068915)
Got around to working on the work ute, 99 Rodeo.
A lot of the components are left overs, or from upgrades from other projects.
Yeah, sure it's Kings stuff, however it works. :)
1, Swapped out the old car battery(2nd) I was using to charge 18V batteries for my power tools and install a 120 AGM, slimline.
I had previously installed a 150W panel over the cab between the ladder racks to charge this, as well as a Redarc Smart charger when driving.
2, Rearranged the side storage area to accommodate the taller battery. Which made me get rid of stuff I hadn't used for years. Yeah I know, I need now next job.
3, Installed a 15lt Kings fridge, I bought 2 about 9 months ago ago on sale for $300 delivered.

So now it's time for some tunes a few

I know the Patrol overseas has the center console fridge (or used to), but never understood why it wasnt an option in AU, they are a great idea.
Well I haven't had a chance to work in the shed yet, but we have currently upgraded. 21x10 with a 6m awning. Removed the old solar from the house, and an all new system on the roof.
Slowly moving stuff in and setting it up. Soon to build a mezzanine then bar area underneath. We supplied the land and the in laws build the shed so they have somewhere to store stuff and stay in the van until they start travelling since they have sold their house.
Tanks and driveway hopefully getting done once all this rain goes away.

Hi foo
What size dcdc? 20-25a draw a bit over 30 amps, you will need 16mm or 6Awg with a 40. Amp midi fuse.
If you have a 40a dcdc charger, 16mm will work with a 50amp midi fuse, some people find (particularly on longer cable runs, like to caravans) that they can't get 40 amps out of the charger because of volt drop into the dcdc charger and need to go to 25mm or 4Awg
If you are going a 50amp plus dcdc you will need 25mm or 4Awg and a 60 amp midi or maxi fuse.
Do you have an agm battery or lithium?
If it's lithium you really need a shunt to be able to monitor your battery state of charge. I would recommend victron 500a smartshunt ($110) or Victron BMV-712 ($200) if you want a display. Victron are the industry leader, have a Bluetooth app for setup and monitoring and are very reliable.
What size inverter do you have? 1000-1500w and you will need a minimum of 35mm or 2Awg with a 100 or 150amp fuse
A 2000w inverter will need a minimum of 50mm or 0Awg cable and a 200amp fuse.
A 3000w inverter will need a minimum of 70mm or 2/0Awg but 95mm 3/0Awg or 120mm 4/0Awg is preferred depending on run length. You will need at least a 250 -300amp maxi fuse and fuse holder.
I hope this helps you out Foo,
Please ask if you have any questions

Put new blades on the ride-on and the walk behind mowers, ready to mow over the weekend. I have probably left it a little longer than I should, but regular showers running through have put to waste several well crafted plans.
Not that I am begrudging the rain.
An old thread, but hey.
I finally replaced the lower tailgate, it had a crack vertical just left of the number plate for the past 5 years, since our trip to Cameron's Cnr.
A good posted up on Market place that he was getting rid of all his 80 parts, he's a mad 80's owner.
I noticed he had a couple of lower tailgate.
Swung by to say G'day and grab one.
I noticed that his 80 wasn't in the back yard with all the other 4wd's that were there, a couple of LN 107's, which are his son's, and a cruiser wagon, 4.5 V8.
Where's ya 80 mate.
'A couple weeks ago, it got stolen out of the back yard, while the misses and I were in Brissy have tests, she's not really good'

Anyway, he's getting rid of a ton of stuff, so I grab a lower tailgate.
This morning I fitted it, Swapped the reverse camera, the nylon Chopping board(food grade) card and buggar me it is a shade of Champagne Gold lighter

I opened the shed door, which hadn't been opened in about 2 weeks, and the heat nearly knocked me on me bum. Thought I'd restock the fridge, as Coke was running low. I dropped a can from about 500mm high, it hit the bottom edge of the fridge cabinet, and exploded. Warm Coke shot about 2M across the floor, and into the bottom of the fridge. Never had a can do that before, but it was about 50deg in the shed at the time.
Today I continued to move things out(beds, pianola, clothes and so on) and into our newly renovated house, because we were going to be living the shed, we had it insulated, so with a recent heat wave(29c ;D ) it was a cool 20c inside, I'm gunna love this shed :cup:
Made a couple more recovery hooks today for some mates, this brings us to about 12 I've made now. It's a bit of work, grinding, cutting and welding etc, but it keeps me out of trouble for awhile ;D
Helped the daughter move some more stuff out and screwed the supports in for the new bench, can't do a lot at the moment as I tripped over Thursday morning and broke some ribs, going in for Xrays on Monday, Think I may have done some damage this time, I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not as young as I was the last time I did them ???

LOL, ..... i've stress tested these things in the real world many, many times, .......... so far not a problem :cup:
Decided to change a couple of things.
I had a 220W house panel hinged on the roof basket. I've got a few of these, which I have accumulated over the last couple of years.
They weigh about 16kg, so in trying to cut on weight, the 80 series has put on a little in the last couple of years.
I acquired 4x RV panels, they are 170W, and only weigh 9kg.
So I installed 1 on the basket(hinged, so I still have storage), and a second as a wind deflector.
I now have 340W of solar, :)
Took the old girl for run, very quiet, no wind noise.

Parked it in the sun for most of the day, a little cloud about, battery at 98%, fridge and the freezer working great. :)
While I was in the mood to be doing stuff, I installed a rotating flashing light on my Remote control mower.
:)

But when I looked into it a bit further, it turns out that you apparently can't legally mount one on a private vehicle! e.g. Qld but all states are much the same:
(b) a special use vehicle may be fitted with 1 or more flashing yellow lights
(3) A vehicle may be fitted with a light or reflector not mentioned in these standards only if the light or reflector is required or permitted to be fitted to a vehicle under an Act.
(4) A vehicle, other than an exempt vehicle or a special use vehicle, must not be fitted with a light that flashes.
(6) In this section—
exempt vehicle means any of the following vehicles—
(a) a police vehicle;
(b) an emergency vehicle;
(c) a transport enforcement vehicle;
(d) an Australian Border Force vehicle;
(e) an Airservices Australia vehicle.
special use vehicle means any of the following vehicles—
(a) a vehicle built or fitted for use in hazardous situations on a road;
(b) an oversize light vehicle authorised to be driven on a road under a guideline or permit issued under part 3;
(c) a vehicle built or fitted to accompany—
(i) a vehicle mentioned in paragraph (b); or
(ii) a heavy vehicle that—
(A) is an oversize vehicle within the meaning of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (Queensland); and
(B) is being used on a road under a mass or dimension exemption within the meaning of that Law;
(d) a vehicle, whether or not a school bus, fitted with warning lights and warning signs under the Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Standard 2010, schedule 1, part 4, section 19 or 25(1)
Yeh like most Bash vehicles would be breaking a law then, what about hazard lights. Just opening this up for more dialogue 😎 That must be why BMWs don't use their blinkers. 😂 Over here in WA notice a lot don't use them compared to SA. I'd plead ignorance & take a chance.
In 30yrs driving work Ute's with flashing lights I've had the neighbours knock on the door a few times to tell me the light is on.
The amount of times we would be telling each other to turn our lights off when leaving site was unreal
Have only once had a mate pulled up by a copper because his light was still flashing. Got a warning.
Personally while I can see the potential benefits i wouldn't risk it.

Thanks. That's what I thought was a possibility, reading the rules.
To me, they make absolute sense to have & use, especially when driving in the country, but obviously not to the people in their air-conned office in the City! ::)
We have them on our work vehicles, for stopping / working in trafficable areas, pedestrian areas or on construction sites/ projects.
We had to carry a letter/ certificate of permission from the local chief inspector of the police in the glove box (chief inspector or Rockhampton police in this case) in case we were pulled over. One of the conditions is you are not allowed to travel with the beacon flashing/ on unless escorting another vehicle or about to stop in a location that could cause a hazard to other traffic users.
