At that time of the year, along the east coast might be very hard, especially for 1 night.
Inland - come down the New England Highway and skip the Pacific carpark Highway altogether.
agree with Gronk- that time of year, most have minimum nights stay... fairly late to be shoppin for em too.
but i must agree too with Ed... pacific hwy is a nightmare that time of year - 10klm traffic jams are common

Thanks cheers....found a motel that can sleep five.
Coast is fine, in no rush.

Is the overnight just for a rest to break the trip up? With 5 I am guessing there is a couple of drivers, is going all the way through in a day not an option?

Three driver two cars.......it was requested it be an overnighter.

Have done the GC to SYD as an overnighter a fair few times, My overnighter is in a bit of a different form though, and it avoids the traffic at peak times as well ;) not quite a scenic though.

20 yrs ago, even with the "old" road, have done GC to Central Coast in less than 8 hrs, needing only one stop for fuel. The old ( new at the time ) 5ltr Commodore was surprisingly good on fuel at 4,000 rpm....23mpg.... I won't say the speed, but you could work it out !! ;D
I don't really like long trips these days, but either GC or Melbourne , at approx 10hrs are still an easy days trip....if you have to do it in a day !
