Anybody else got a Native Bee Hive in their garden??
I purchased one last weekend.......and they tell me it ready to split which means we will have two to help the garden, fruit trees and veggie patch.
We have to work on a more stylish cover for the hive.
Chasing tips on splitting....

Got 1 twelve months ago out of a neighbours front wall. Was 1 of 3, it was huge. Since then found another in my back yard and nursing it to good health. They are interesting to watch. Weigh them every month to track their growth.
We have one in a tree up high in the bottom paddock. Not getting to close to check the size but it's been there for three years and they seem happy.

i recently found one of their hives in the fork of a tree in the camp area of the Jandowae showgrounds, i actually thought they were flies buzzing around the tree to start with when I first saw them.
Ha ha yes they do seem a bit like flies . Poor honey producers compared to conventional bees but good cause you can have them close to the house and they rarely produce more than they require to survive as opposed to European bees which need robbing
These little tackers

Does anyone else wonder how you get a bee to stand on the scales to get weighed? ;D
My step father is right into native bees, what did you want to know?
Cheers

I put mine under a thimble, biggest problem is marking them so I know they have all been on the scales. ???
