Meeting and chatting to Evolution today got me thinking...
He said "on the way to Cape York you always break something"
Just wondering what you may have broken and what you would bring or do different next time.
Cheers

Wife and i didn't hold back when we broke something .....We went the whole hog.......We broke the LAW...Fuelled the BT50 in Weipa...Then thinking each other went in to pay the bill....Drove off without paying...When we finally were in phone coverage the daughter phoned us and said...the police were looking for us...Got it sorted...all good......
;D ;D ;D
Nothing
Did Tele track, the Bloomfield track. Came back as I left, no breakages
2 batteries in the car. First the starter died, then the aux. was going to replace both before I left, and said nah, they'll be right. Starter we replaced at Weipa on the way up. Aux died at the tip, could get a deep cycle anywhere. So turned fridge off in car and replaced it about a month after we got home.
Nothing......twice......
2 trip up Tele track, one slow leak with crap in the tyre bead.
Nothing.
Bill
Nothing on the way up, broke the bead on 1 tyre, cleaned and pumped it up.
But..
The way back, well, kind of broke the ute, for good. Made the trip to the wreckers on a tilt tray, I went via the Cooktown hospital. Not the best of memories that one, especially killing my HJ47 beast that she was. anyway, that was 20 years ago now. I'll be going again next year.
Not on the way up but on the way back down...put fan into radiator on a crossing after Nolans, broke the fan but didn't hole the radiator...flew a new fan blade overnight into Weipa to repair it. Also when I hit the bitumin of Weipa I could hear a nasty diff whine...turned out the diff breather hose had come off (not enough slack in it I'm guessing) and filled the diff with water. Drove the vehicle home to Btisbane like that and had the diff rebuilt when I was home.

lol. awesome.
1 egg on the Bloomfield Track (road)
handle on 1 of the drop down legs.
Admittedly, we were doing a Shitbox challenge in an old 60 series cruiser, but the issues we had up & back were:
Leaking clutch master cylinder (get drops of fluid on top of left foot) - still leaking.
Clutch slave cylinder failure - bodged back together.
Oil pressure gauge reading zero. Loose connection - left alone.
Power steering doesn't at low rev's - left alone.
Choke warning light comes on - black sticky tape fixed it.
Lack of coolant in radiator - probably should have checked it at least once.
Rear transfer case pinion seal let go coming into Cooktown - replaced on the grass at the beach.
Leaking rear diff pinion seal - drove home on it anyway.
Seats are still frigging uncomfortable.
;D
Brand new set of narva HID spot lights. The old mounting system was not strong enough.
Returned them to narva and they replaced them with a new mounting system that they had upgraded.
Other than that just a bit of side step and rear bumper damage from entry and exit at Palm creek.
nothing on the truck, got a few scratches on the Telegraph though.
snapped the cheap plastic locks on the rear hatch on the trailer, too much rattling on the corrugations
Broke a few records at the stubby hut.
Nothing both car and trailer unscathed...
In 7 trips up there I had a few things happen
one wheel came off the cruiser, always check your nuts
Bent the wind down legs on the camper getting stuck at Palm Creek
Burnt my hands on some hot rocks thanks to Symon, I did have a few, ok a lot, of drinks and picked up some rocks on Symons camp oven, they looked like they were cool ;D
Burnt a clutch out on Berts car
Bent a stone guard on a $60k Aussie Swag camper
Got bogged once
Chased by a snake at Eliot Falls
Broke a finger trying to catch a beer someone threw to me
Fell over on rocks at Canal Creek and did not spill any beer, grazed knee and elbow
Hit finger with hammer putting in tent pegs, yes had a few drinks prior to this
Tripped on tent peg returning from someone's camp after a few drinks, did not spill a drop
It pays to have a few drinks when at the Cape
Mark
that's GOLD Mark :cup:
Bloody hell I had a good laugh at that Mark!
I'm going up there in July with a few mates, we'll see what happens...

Same here, what also makes me laugh is I did not drop it but placed it slowly back on the camp oven. The pain was very slow registering ;D

I thought my VSR was playing up as my AGM was low in voltage so I bought a new one.
Found out it was my crank battery died and wasn't getting up to full charge allowing VSR to close n charge AGM.

That's not how VSR's work. Once the system voltage reaches a set point (alternator output, not start battery charge), the VSR joins the start and aux. The two batteries are charged concurrently as one big battery, not as separate batteries.
Just saying.....
