Going through a Yankee forum and found this set up, could be handy for some .http://www.campchef.com/redwood-fire-pit.html (http://www.campchef.com/redwood-fire-pit.html)
Uses lava rock to spread the heat etc
Edit : for a $175 bucks they can keep it ..
I've got the original :)
For many years l have endeavoured to & have perfected the " PDFP " Yes Friends , The Per Dug Fire Pit .
You & some of your closest friends are off camping , arranging the trip , food , grog , traveling , grog & a bottle of wine for SWOMBO . When you get there after a long drive , then set up after a big week at work , its time to start a fire .
wouldn't it be nice to have " Pre delivered & installed fire pit " ???
Yes it now can be arranged . All you have to do is send me the number of Swaggers to be sitting around said fire & friends that turned up to such a perfect Pre Dug Fire P it . l will send Via Express Swagmail , after the rate has been approved in the form of VB Slabs delivered & received .
To reuse Your " PDFP " & relocate it to the next camp site , carefully dig it up . Then secure the PDFP to the CT as if it falls off on the track it could be hard to find as its really hard to see . PDFPs look so much like a pot hole & will swallow a Rig in 1 gulp .
PM me with your requirements & beware of Online Scams offering 4/5 of 5/8 of SWA
;D And this is why this forum is so great I love the humour of the characters that inhabit these pages
Are they available here?
Down load me a few Slabs of Cold VB cans & l will get started of " Your PDFP " . >:D  Let ne know how big you want it ???
Drifta have come fold up ones - expensive but look good?

Ahhh the good old washing machine tub :cup:
I have just acquired a washing machine tub from a washer that was left out for cleanup - It was 5 to 7 years old cheap fisher and pykel.
I've gotten the tub out and though its yet to be used in a fire i feel that it's a very soft metal. Is this normal for washing machine tubs? I imagined the tub would be a lot more sturdy. I think i could bend it with my hands if i wanted to.
I recently bought a galvanised metal bucket from Bunnings for about $9. Drilled some holes in sides near the bottom of the bucket and used it as a fire place. Worked a treat. And its small enough to pack just about anywhere.
The enamel coated steel ones don't last, you need a stainless tub.
Here's one I prepared earlier;

I had the same thing for quite a while, it worked a treat and really efficient on wood. It eventually disintegrated so now I use a cut down gas bottle that is a slightly bigger but much more sturdy version of the same thing.

Cooking with gal is poisonous. Not sure about the fumes just using it as a fire but I wouldn't use gal.

Galvanized steel is coated with zinc. Zinc and zinc oxide are relatively volatile, and so it will release fumes easily in a fire. These fumes, as you know, can be toxic.

Just camp next to the bloke using treated pine and someone will be worse off than you lol :) :D TIC
I think the gal has pretty much burnt off by now.

I've been welding gal products on and off for years and I'm alright. Although that could be debated. ;D
