I saw recently in the news that Sydney water is raising their prices for water and reducing the water pressure. I was wondering how much other areas are getting charged. Surely some areas are free.
Sydney water $2.168 per kilo litre (1000 litres)
Where we live.
Cairns Water $ $1.09 per kilo litre
Ours is 77 cents per kilo litre in Melbourne
gordo350
Just be thankful you don't live in SA.
We get ripped off at $2.26 per KL for the first 30KL, $3.23 per KL from 30 to 130KL, and then goes up to $3.49 per KL for any amount above 130KL.
We are paying for a stupid desal plant, which this supid govt decided to double in size, which we don't even need or use, and were conned into it by them saying 'it will reduce our reliance on the Murray'. Our take from the Murray is the same as it always was!!
Apparantly our water costs are amongst the highest in the world!
yes - SA water is one of the mose expensive commodities on earth.
Stupid Rann govt had to spend money we didn't have, during the worst drought in recent times, only to have the Desal plant ready during the 11th largest flood on record, and then mothball the desal plant at some horrendus cost, only to potentially use it down the track... if we need it.....
Since the building of the Desal plant, water prices have gone through the roof to cover the cost of it, yet we dont use it....
Water use / rules / policy / sharing in this country is so far backwards its not funny!
Nothing for us as we are on rain water tanks,
I also have underground water (natural springs) which rises to the surface in different spots on the farm so if needed we fill our tanks from these, the spring flow is constant all day every day so they come in handy in times when there is a dry spell in the weather.
Trevor

Were you meaning SA or Vic?
Doesn't really matter. Basically applies to both. >:(
Peter
I guess I won't be complaining about $1.10 per kilo litre any more. I thought it was a bit rich considering we get over 2 meters of rain per year up here and our water catchment dam is older than me.
I have about 60,000l of rain water in 3 tanks for the house then 22,000l of fire fighting water in another tank fed from the well. All it costs me is for the electricity to pump it about . . . So it isn't really free . . . .
Put some solar panels on to run the pump............. ;D
