Hi all,
Looking for some ideas on where to stay near Dubbo. Thinking about staying for a 2 night stay on the way up to Fraser so we can take the teenager to the Dubbo Zoo.
Not sure if we should stay in a caravan park or elsewhere. Don't need power as the Trackabout of course is coming with us. Can't leave her at home!
Other ideas for heading up this way would be good to please. I'm in the planning phase and trying to decide which way would be interesting to drive up.
Thinking of coming back the coast way so wanted to mix it up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I have stayed at the Big 4 and the Top Tourist .
The Big 4 was set up with all the square sites .
The Top Tourist had the big grassy area to just fit in as you please .
So my vote goes to the Top Tourist.
And look into the early morning tour at the Zoo , which goes around for feeding before the normal opening time , and gets up close to alot of animals and you see things like the monkeys full of energy before they doze off later on .
We are doing the same thing on our way to tassie and I have enquired with the winery behind the zoo and it cost $5 a night and I think they said you get a bottle of wine not that I drink wine, but there are no facilities.
Terrara Camping area in the Nangar National Park, between Orange and Parkes is a great overnight spot, can be in Dubbo by lunch the next day

My dad stayed at one of the free camps in the Camps Wide book when he came down for Christmas.
It was on the banks of a river about 10 k's out.
Number 933 - Terramungamine Reserve.
He actually spent 2 nights there and said it was a great spot.
I think it was free as well.
Either Goobang or peak Hill caravan park. Some friends stayed there and liked it.
I found The Midstate CP in dubbo a bit cheaper than the other two parks. Fine for two nights. I think form memory the other two parks wanted 75 a night !!!!
I'd recommend anywhere but Dubbo.. but you saw that in the other threads on Dubbo
If you are looking for things to do in that area, The old Dubbo jail is worth a look, The dish at Parkes, Mcfeeters motor museum at Forbes is great. Further north the siding springs observatory is interesting as is the Pilliga Pottery both just out of Coonabarabran. I'm sure you could camp at the pottery, They were lovely people when we were there.
Thanks everyone.
I have my list now and will do my research. Thanks JCat, Terramungamine had come up in a quick look I had yesty morning.
Fantastic Singo-26, lots of ideas for places to see.
The countdown is on so your quick responses are much appreciated.
Cheers
