Here in the States, there are a lot of locations you
can not transport firewood into. Mainly because of the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle (http://offroadcamping.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=21a&action=display&thread=988), you can have a campfire if you purchase the wood locally within the area you are camping. They are trying to prevent this insect from spreading. It started on the east coast and is working its way across the country. We are located in Missouri (The middle of the country). We don't even haul any wood at all anymore, we use a propane campfire unit. We like it very much and now I don't know if we would ever go back to the traditional campfire anymore. No Smoke, No Sparks and with a flip of the valve, you have a nice warm fire in seconds. Its great, especially on a rainy camp day, we set our propane campfire under the awning, have a cup of hot coffee in front of the fire, kick back and watch it rain...Good Stuff! 8)
Here is the unit we use Campfire in a Can (https://sites.google.com/site/offroadcampingclub/news/campfireinacan)
Just curious, if your having problems with this insect from Asia and what are you using for a portable campfires?
Hey UNI,
interesting concept, i can see a lot of positives for it, Do you use yours for cooking?

No only for the campfire, it does come with a grill if needed for cooking. It would be great for making coffee in a percolator, but we use a French Press for coffee.

HI Uni, we aren't as restricted as you guys.. I am not aware of a problem with the insect here in queensland.....i don't use a portable camp fire so I can't help you there.
Regards
Scott

There is no replacing a wood fire you got to have smoke to keep the mozzies away ;D
Speewa You did'nt tell them about your pre dug fire pit it's portable :cup:
gibbo If the word gets out about the value of the PDFP it could be ripped off in no time at all . PDFPs { Pre Dug Fire Pits } can be ordered to fit any size cleared space , after you have sent me the correct amount of  I can fax it to you . Campfire in a can looks very impresive indeed but its possibly better to buy a whole lot of Australian PDFP . Keeping the profits for a Pub or bottle shop close to me . Support the local industroy .
Anybody that wants more info on PDFPs sent Mobs of Grog so we can chat

I think you miss the idea...because the PDFP is so vesitile & flexible, no need to carry firewood.
Not having seen 1 yet - still saving up, propbably next father's day - I think it's designed it to simply be placed 'round the nearest tree!
:cup:
Never thought of that ;D
