Homeless on Free Camp Sites

Hi again . Just got back from an enjoyable3 Night stint at Hettner Landing ,Walker Flat S.A. This free camp area is very popular , and i just managed to snag the last available River Front Spot as i arrived on Tuesday . I and most others spend anything from a Day to a Week here normally , its a great spot with a very well kept Toilet all at no charge nor Booking Fee . Speaking to a few regulars they were concerned that 2 fellow Campers had been there for months , one Chaps van had Engine Siezed and had no money to get it fixed and Both relied on People to get supplies at the nearby Store for him , or just plain scrounging, asked to move on by Council . but remained regardless , ive noticed this more so nearer urban areas/towns but not out in the countryside .Their and my worry is that if this type of miss use continues we will all suffer in the end .

Hmm, I personally don't have a problem long term campers at free camp places, especially if they keep it clean.
There is in this country many people who, for what ever reason, and the reason are many, are becoming homeless.
Our Daughter when she first moved to Perth a couple of years ago, struggled to find accommodation, her and her partner found work, they couldn't for a place to live.
They lived our of their Hi/ace for 9 months, camped at many places.
She did say the rangers were really good about it, if there kept moving from one place to another .
They showered at their places of work, renting can be a nightmare.
On the other side of things, on the North Coast of NSW, after the devastating floods, there are many people living on Crown Land, in tents, makeshift dwellings, I don't know what the answer is.

Thanks for reply , yes as long as they move about and give others a shot at a site i dont see much of a prob , cheers .

Dudes engine seized.. not sure what he can do - many people would be in his shoes not having 5-30k (30k was a 200 series owner on here few yrs ago engine + turbo) layin round for engine ... it would be a nightmare of a situation to be in..

But people just taking over the hot spots with million $ views, i can understand locals being pissed... some of the people taking over these areas treat them like the local tip.  As you said its a bigger issue in cities, the rangers are hot on it round here - plenty of media reports on it...

Taking over free campsites semi-permanently I dont think they should be allowed to do it.  It can be hard to find a spot as it is sometimes... people living there just screws it up for everyone else.

Agree with you, 'Importing 1000's'
IMO is lunacy.
When you research the amount of businesses, especially small business that have closed their doors, this has to put pressure on the already burdened welfare system. No wonder the NDIS is a basket case, 1 in 5 Australian's are dependent on it, either directly for help or providing a service to those in need.
