Apart from disabling capability it could be worse if they could accelerate them all flat out  ???

Yeah I hear what you say and generally agree. I drive a 70 Series so technology is limited to electric windows, central locking and a remote fuel door. My wife's car has the auto hi beam system your link refers to but I think it is probably one of the better improvements in recent years. How often does an oncoming motorist forget to dip the lights when coming toward you? Some of the other "features" drive me nuts and I worry that drivers who learn in vehicles with these systems become reliant on them instead of using them as a secondary line of defence.

I had a chap working in my team about 10 years ago. We supplied full use company cars and when his was up for replacement the new car didn't have a reversing camera. He told me he wouldn't be able to drive it. He didn't have mobility issues or neck / shoulder problems but said he had become so used to having it he wouldn't be able to reverse park without it. Funny thing was when I offered him a job in the office with no car he quickly adapted to the cameraless car.

It has all gone stupid.  Rain sensing wipers, adaptive high beam, lane change assist that corrects your steering.... All adds cost and is quite unneccessary
Sensors everywhere and if they fail you are limping home.
I just want a car I can drive and control everything myself.

Funny story
Daughter's 2015 Mazda3 got a service & she needed a new stop/start battery (pricing on them is a rort).
They replaced the battery and they use a clever little box to keep modules powered up during battery changeover. So there should be no electrical gremlins generated....right?...
Picked up the car and the aircon fan and indicators didn't work, right on closing time on friday. Everything else was fine.
Mechanic was tearing his hair out & said he'd get the auto leccie to look at it monday

Took it home. found some similar cases online on Mazda forums - the answer?
you have to leave it for at least an hour so all the modules are fully depowered.
Turn it off and on again basically ;D

Rang the mechanic on monday - said of all the Mazdas they had done, that had never happened before, so not quite sure what happened  ;D

I really dislike where new cars are going....I'd hate to be a mechanic or auto electrician these days

Years ago I worked in the iron ore industry in WA's Pilbara region. The mine I was at, Pannawonica, had both the very basic Haulpak 170t dump trucks and the GM Terex 200t models.
The Haulpak was diesel/electric with few fancy innovations. They ran and ran and ran with little problems. The only major issue was with wet roads (water trucks were used to control dust issues) and an occasional ground relay fault which required an electrician to reset the system. Better monitoring of the amount of water on the roads soon controlled this issue.
The Terex trucks with a bigger payload and sensors for just about every thing that could go wrong, were forever in the electrician's or mechanic's workshop being checked for problems. They were so unreliable that our company offloaded them to BHP for a song.
BHP never were very smart.

I found most of the new vehicles make you turn off the safety features off every time you start the car, pain in the butt. Even worse with traction control turning back on every time you start the vehicle, it’s like they are trying to get you bogged in soft sand.

It's the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracey, seeing the destruction on the telly that Christmas morning, was like nothing I'd ever seen before.
My parents heard about it on the radio, later that day the first television pictures were shown.
I was 8 at the time, seeing the footage being showed at the moment as different channels run stories of that event, again brings back so many memories.
The Lismore Flood in March(74) was still fresh in locals minds, one of the biggest, Then to see the devastating  landscape of Darwin was mind numbing.
I am Sorry if these pictures are distressing.

Yeah it was a crazy thing to wake up to and hear it on the radio. We were at Cottontree camping grounds an d had weathered a few cyclones in our times there in a tent.  :o

Hi,
We were there in 76, so 18 months after the event and there was still a lot of damage to the bush. Trees looking very shredded. Civilian infrastructure was mostly ok.
Nearly fell off the bike when quoted for an overnight dusty patch of dirt at a caravan park, so camped elsewhere in a patch of scrub.
We were only there to replace a tyre.
Cheers

This is just, unbelievable that people do this.
I guess, that's why when travel to remote areas, we still find crap that people have left behind.
This makes me sad.

The City of Casey has an interesting recent past. The state government sacked the council in 2020 amid one of the worst corruption scandals of the time. The scandal involved development and planning applications and cash in suitcases etc according to the press at the time. Apparently there was significant evidence that was uncovered by the corruption watchdog (IBAC).

Four years on and no charges were ever laid. Council elections are held and low and behold the sacked councillors are free to stand.

I don't live in the Shire of Casey but I am in the shire next to it and what concerns me is "rust spreads". Whilst I am beyond getting under my vehicle and replacing a clutch I might still do some servicing and repairs. With "Snap Save and Send" now everyone is a potential dobber. The mind boggles.
