Carmakers shifted the foot dip switch to the stalk to make it more convenient but automation just aids doze off on the highway where the majority of fatalities occur.
It has all gone stupid. Rain sensing wipers, adaptive high beam, lane change assist that corrects your steering.... All adds cost and is quite unneccessary
Sensors everywhere and if they fail you are limping home.
I just want a car I can drive and control everything myself.
Funny story
Daughter's 2015 Mazda3 got a service & she needed a new stop/start battery (pricing on them is a rort).
They replaced the battery and they use a clever little box to keep modules powered up during battery changeover. So there should be no electrical gremlins generated....right?...
Picked up the car and the aircon fan and indicators didn't work, right on closing time on friday. Everything else was fine.
Mechanic was tearing his hair out & said he'd get the auto leccie to look at it monday
Took it home. found some similar cases online on Mazda forums - the answer?
you have to leave it for at least an hour so all the modules are fully depowered.
Turn it off and on again basically
Rang the mechanic on monday - said of all the Mazdas they had done, that had never happened before, so not quite sure what happened
I really dislike where new cars are going....I'd hate to be a mechanic or auto electrician these days
