A magnitude 6.3 earthquake caused severe damage in Christchurch and Lyttelton, killing 185 people and injuring several thousand.

Yeah, this was a big one by magnitude but it was deep @8km and vertical so up and down. Christchurch was shallow @1km and horizontal, it hit the mountains and reflected back into Christchurch.

Don't make the same mistake they made over here in Christchurch of going back into buildings that were structurally damaged
The buildings had done their job and stayed up and let people get out, but when the second one came they failed

Victoria has just been rocked by two earthquakes, with residents reporting strong shudders, offices being evacuated and tremors being felt as far away as Sydney, Canberra and Tasmania.

VicSES says a magnitude 6.0 earthquake — that was 10km deep — has occurred with an epicentre near Mansfield in Victoria.

A second quake, understood to be an aftershock and registering a magnitude of 4.0, has taken place in the same location.

According to Geoscience Australia the first quake was at 9:15am local time, and the second one, magnitude-4.0, was at 9:33am.

Residents from as far away as Dubbo in NSW have reported tremors from the quake.

It was felt in 190 kilometres away in Melbourne as well as in regional Victoria, Sydney, regional New South Wales, the ACT, Adelaide and Launceston in Tasmania.

Just watching 9 news and the reporter said "the quake was soo big, it SHOOK THE EARTH"  Seriously man? Who would of thunk it? An earth quake that shakes the earth? Were the frig do they get these reporters?

Nah...most of them nuffies couldn't point to Licola on the map. That's why they say it was in Mansfield. That's near enough. Most people know where that is.
