Some countries have nothing or very little by way of pension or benefits.

At least we have something..... yeah, it may be a bit rooted and broken, but better than nothing.

Might be time to see that glass as still half full rather than half empty.  :D

I guess if you are actually eligible for any benefits or pensions, you could see it that way. But all I see is my half full glass being slowly drained by my contributions to the government teat.

My take is I’m happy for part of my tax to go on the few dodgy welfare recipients, if they didn’t get it I reckon my house and car would get broken into a lot more, let alone people getting robbed....

Well, as of now I'm in the welfare system. I have to wait 10weeks before I get a payment, but I'm on the rock and roll !
Due to circumstances out of my control I'm no longer able to work for the short term future.

But don't worry,  if and when I get to full operating capacity, I'll still be on the rock and roll, but I'll be a volunteer at a aged care facility.

Talking to a Canadian couple a few years ago on the GRR. In Canada when you retire you all get the pension, doesn't matter if your rolling in dough or not every one gets the same. Guess what no equivalent to centrelink they don't means test you, that would save them millions right there.

Can remember my mother telling about some time back in the 40s or 50s that the government of the day, introduced a what I'll call, a pension tax. I t was to get more money but was also to help pay for your future pension.Of course this has been forgotten and gobbled up into all the other taxes that we pay. So for all your life you have been paying for it and some will get it and some will not. I have had next to nothing from the government all my life and looks like it will be that way for the rest of it.

Sadly there is a stigma attached to welfare recipients, I worked from age 14 to 57 before retiring to become the wife’s career. The first twelve months living expenses were covered by my leave entitlements before we were able to get a disability pension and access my super. We also now access the NDIS and I have to say we would be struggling without it, the ability have help when it comes to therapies has been a godsend. Think physio weekly, massage weekly, speech pathology monthly, podiatry monthly etc and the bills soon rack up.

These same people got a big pay rise during covid...one idea floating around was they would spend it ( they don't know the concept of saving ), so keeping the economy ticking along !

I'm not sure it was that bad when they decided to cross, but yeh, the brain dead come out when there is water over the road.
When it's a busy road, it's like watching the wilderbeast going across a river...herd mentality...
On saturday I came up to a flooded intersection....all following a car length behind...straight in....and I did the same, but only after looking ahead and seeing how high the water was on their wheels...probably about 200mm deep, but if you went nice and slow and don't push a bow wave, all good, but you have to look out for the heros who have no idea and makes "waves" for all the other poor sods..

Sun is out,
Water is still very high in many places,
Now we have knuckle heads sightseeing, clogging roads, mates that have had water come within an inch or two of entering their homes, now have to deal with F$#%tards driving boats around at speed causing waves to enter their homes, sheds  properties and flooding belongings.
WTF is wrong with people :(

Up around the Bundaberg region $1.40 to $1.50.

Energy companies are all the same, think of something that will impact on the sale of their product, some time in the future, put the price up NOW to compensate.

Motorists are being urged to fill up before the Easter long weekend as retailers prepare to jack up petrol prices across Australia’s biggest cities.

Big price hikes are expected across Sydney and Melbourne in the coming days as retail discounting cycles begin to peak, driven by higher international oil prices.

Average prices in Sydney, which hit 160 cents per litre on Tuesday morning, could rise to 170 cents over the coming days, Commonwealth Bank senior economist Ryan Felsman said.

I get irritated with people who still complain when Petrol goes up just before a public holiday in Australia.

If you have not by now worked out that the Australian public holiday system has a direct impact on the Singapore terminal crude price... Then you must be one of those flat earthers ;D
