The campers who lit an (illegal) fire on Fraser island last year - burning down half the island; risking townships and lives; and costing tax payers multi millions od dollars were delt with courts today...

No conviction recorded - coped a couple of fines
approx
$790 and
$1300

The $790 guy's solicitor told the judge his client didn't light the fire ... he just sat in front if it - "had a few drinks"; and went to bed...

"the judge focused almost entirely on the objective seriousness of the offence while disregarding his client's lack of convictions, his early guilty plea and personal circumstances."

OMG, what is the world coming to ??? :o

A judge sentenced somebody for actually committing a crime ???

Seariously, WTF is it with the prices that some people are asking for second vehicles, especially second 4x4.
You've mentioned it before Bird, it's insane.
My son is in the market for a 91 to 95 80 series, you have to be F×÷%en kidding the condition of some of these vehicles, rust, paint peeling, rough as guts, they've been flogged.
Hilux's are no different, haven't been looked after, rusty, scratched paint.
Started to look at Tritons, BT50's, same Shite boxes, asking huge coin.
WTF is it with this market ATM?
House prices have gone through the roof, watch the news and every evening there is a story on the increase in property prices.

When I was a young fella, I had the same problem. Trying to find a decent, second hand 4bee was nigh impossible!
Holdens, Falcons, Valiants, Cortinas, Minis, Hillman Hunters, Escorts and the odd Zephyr 6 had a stranglehold on the market!

Pretty simple hairs..... the prices are, what the prices are.

Either stump up the cash or  buy a pushbike.

I fail to see your reward for hard work theory.  ???

He works, he gets paid..... *that's the reward) the cost of something he wants to buy is a separate thing, unless you feel he is entitled.

I agree. Life is all about compromise and hard work. My first cat was. 105E Anglia. Not what I wanted but what I could afford. When I bought my first house I went without alot of things, holidays included, to save for the deposit. Someone said to me a while ago "look at that lucky bigger with all the toys he's got" and I thought yeah....the harder he works, the luckier he gets.

House prices have gone through the roof, watch the news and every evening there is a story on the increase in property prices.

Fairfax owns the Domain group, and Newscorp owns the REA group...... That's why there is a story about the housing market on the TV news every night. It's in their own interests to keep the market strong. Funny how their stories on the news always show the real estate branding and references to their affiliated companies, but they never seem to disclose it as advertising??????

Just sayin  >:D

Me and a bloke at work are both looking at houses at the moment 500-550k means at least 650... one he was interested in 699-750 went for ~890.. Hoping same happens with mine.

but how on earth you put in a successful offer is beyond me. How you value places compared to sellers, or agents is a mystery

House prices,
Dealing with estate agents the last 9 months the market has reacted to covid like nothing else before. Agents that have been in the industry for decades haven't seen the likes of what is happening here atm.
Speaking with a 24 year old bloke a week,  he was shattered, each time they find a property, just about to sign, agent tells them a better offer has been excepted. Yeah I know that is how it is, but boy it must be soo disheartening. Acre blocks, un sewered are going for 500K
Even the lack of rentals in the Clarence Valley is making life hard for couples that both work.
The amount of people I have meet in the last 6 months who have sold up in Sydney and moved here, bought what ever they can to get away from there.

Kev, my young bloke is saving his coin, he is working towards his dreams, he's not the only one that is finding it like this.
Shit boxes, going for unrealistic prices.

Anyway,

This year is not a good year to be jumping into the property minefield. Wait until the prices either stabilise or come back a bit.
When covid disappears, and the world settles down, and interest rates creep back up, then that's the time.?

For people who already own real estate, doesn't matter how much the prices go up because their own property also goes up.

So even if prices go down when interest rates go up, your interest repayments will remain similar or higher. Catch 22.

House price 400k.                   Interest rate 4%. Annual interest payment 16k
House price 320k (20% drop)  Interest rate 5% Annual interest payment  16k

who have sold up in Sydney and moved here

& that's the killer :'(

Sydney RE prices are so far off the scale (& planet!) that with what they get for selling a normal suburban house down there, they can buy just about anything with $ left over.

Just in this last 12 months, prices in our street have gone from ~$750k, to two places sold in the last month for $1mill + :o

mates parents place at Kurnell sold for $2,050,000 in 2016 - and basically dozed it...

apparently its now a 'flood' risk there... so any land for houses on waterfront need to be built up something like 6ft - these builders were smart...  then kept the concrete slab, and bottom course of bricks to bypass the new building laws :D

mates parents place at Kurnell sold for $2,050,000 in 2016

& just cleared the letter box & the obligatory RE brochure in there with another place up for sale around the corner - would have been built early - mid 80s brick & tile, with the standard 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 cars, 614m2 "offers over $1.3mill" ::) (& it's probably already sold!)

Talking to our doom & gloom neighbour t'other day & he was saying in his best Hanrahan impression "None of us will be here in 6 years time. We'll all have been bought out & there'll be units right through this area as it's only 1k from where the light rail will be going through". Maybe so, but we don't want to sell up & leave the area, &, even if we do say, OK give us $1.5M, where do we then go ???
