The Z car is at last, sitting on its own suspension, well, the new R31 Skyline suspension that is.
Its still sitting pretty tall in the front, but we are still minus a heap of parts/weight yet too.

I haven't been able to move the bloody car, as i had it sitting dead square for the engine and box alignment and Shit.

The mounts and cross member are done now, so it was time to spin the ol girl around and start getting ready to move the rear springs inboard.

The old diff will be coming out tomorrow......  :D
We'll get a start on the steering column to rack in a day or two as well.

The floor needs to be trimmed a bit more to get an explosion proof shield in there.... ANDRA/IHRA make ya do it.
I'm quite confident, my Bob Grant built Turbo 400 trans will be just fine. (I've never drag raced on anything else)

Christ, i'm slow getting this done..... Shits much harder at 60 than it was at age 30.  :-[
You can sort of see where its headed though.

and a couple more.

I have a heap of brand new Shit coming for it, but the Covid thing may impact getting some of the diff parts.

Well since you have a skyline front end why don't you stick a RB26 in it and really turn some heads when you take off from the lights

Because the Barra will kill an RB26
I've seen some stuff on a guy in Oz that put a Barra in an R32

OH MAN.... this is piss funny.

I knew the old Zephyr diff had a mountain of backlash in it.
I'd assumed, it had Shit the planetary gears,

Today, I attempted to drain the oil. (Drain plug isn't coming out in this lifetime)

Threw an ice cream bucket under it and undid the centre to let it drain while I bopped the axles out.
These things run a floating hub and separate bearing set up to the axle.
The right side axle slipped out and bearing hub has started to undo itself.... danger Will Robinson....sumfin isn't right.

The left side seemed ok, so grabbed the ice cream bucket.
I kid you not, not one drop of oil, nada, zero.... dry as a dead dogs dick.

Lifted the centre out and nearly dropped the friggin thing laughing.

The crown wheel and pinion teeth are ground down to a razor sharp finish.

The diff in this thing would've howled like a bastard......  ;D

It confirms why it came off the road in Sept of 1970......   :cup:

Check out these teeth.
If you've ever seen a diff gear, they are way thicker than these.

The 235 drag radial sits under with ease too. (just using a bald one for testing)
The new ones are here next Wednesday.
The new diff is yet to be shortened, the old housing and Shit is going in the wheelie bin.

Looks like its been drier than a nuns nasty, for a lonngggg time, Its a wonder the carrier and pinion bearings survived ..
Trimmed and sorted these out a bit ..Thought they might be able to be enlarged and put about the ZED Zone  .

Had a look at the gear from the Gazzard Bros...... noice..

We'll be spending some money there soon.

Couple of pics,

1. The floor is pretty good now, so I can start making some templates for the replacement of some sheet metal.

2. Not cheap, @ $780 a pair, but hmmmm baby, nice and sticky.

3. When i'm not building the car, i'm digging out the pool I filled in 10 years ago.
I was setting a pump to get the water out.

 do enjoy having a win.....

When I got the Falcon ute home, back when....
One look at how close the rear calipers were to the 16 inch mags, there was no way in hell, 15's were going to go on.
Pissed me off, as the handbrake set up from the ute is a 10 times better set up

Even to the point, I bought some EB falcon rear discs and Shit, so I could get the 15's on.

This morning, while prepping everything ready for the diff short back and sides, I did a test fit.
Bugger me, very slight rub on a high spot on one caliper slide.

Nicked a mm or 2 high spot off (about 20mm thick) and good to go.

Happier than a baby beaver in a toothpick factory.

Still switching between the barra that hauls crap and a barra that's gunna haul arse.
Until I saw these pics, I didn't realise what a fat c**t I am.

Yeah I thought Steve Irwin had pranked us all and spent the time eating his way out of the pool.
Picked up your led lights today....I'll let you know when we get back down there.
